Quick Q - How much oil?

GF just got a 3rd gen, and I want to make sure how much oil it takes? I know my 2nd gen like the back of my hand so I feel stupid for asking this but we don't have the manual for the 3rd gen right now.

So..how much oil does it take?

I've gone 4.5 quarts in my 1.9, when it specs 4 quarts, which will not show full on the dipstick. Currently I can go with 5 quarts due to using a larger oil filter.

FWIW, you can download a PDF version of the original owner's manual that came with the car directly from Ford.. It has all the service info (capacities etc).

When I change the oil on my car, I put in 4 quarts, run the car for a few seconds to fill the oil filter, then check the oil and add as necessary. My '97 usually takes 4.5 quarts.

4.5 quarts with a filter change is the correct amount.
