Are rear RCA aux inputs out of style?

Lil sis wants me to make a DVD player work in her Vibe, and I want to buy an HU that has rear RCA aux input. It was pretty common on all but the lowest models, now they all have proprietary accassory plugs that require at least a cheap adapter or worse, a module AND an adapter. Do any of you with their finger on the market know which HUs have rear RCA aux input?
These days it's all about the front jack for the MP3 player. Ironocally in the 80s they had the same jack on cassette receivers so people could hear their Discmans. or is it Discmen?

my cheapo alpine has rear rca imputs. i had to buy a $20 adapter to do it, but i didn't care much because the hu only cost $100 anyways. i think you can do this on just about any alpine

Most if not all radio's I've installed have had RCA inputs and outputs.

I know that Pioneer still likes to use them, and a couple of Alpines too.

99% of all newer decks use a sub out. then the next step is front and sub. then all three. rear fill is over rated. if you need to amp them just use your front stage outputs. then amp all your mids at the same power. my wife and i just bought a toyota matrix si i know where your coming from.

Watcha talkn' 'bout? It's aux INPUTS I am asking about.

alot of headunits have 3 outs! this answer obviously does not answer your original question but im going to post it anyways!!!!

most decks now have 1/8" aux inputs, not sure about a deck w/ front and rear inputs though...

Most of the ones I have installed too had rear aux input rcas, but the kid in best buy says that of the things currently in their board, only the most expensive do, and some mid level ones have proprietary plugs for it that require an adapter or an expensive module. As for front 1/8" input jacks, they all have it, even the cheapest, unless they have something better instead.

first off your mixing things up by what you said. you want a rear mounted aux aka: video input. the way you made it sound to me atleast is you want a rear rca output and you didn't say it right. i now understand you. a video feed will not be able to be run off an 1/8" style plug from the best of my knowledge. it is strickly audio feed. so you will still need a video in. an the best buy kid (as much as i hate it) is right none of your lower end decks will have it. you can buy the 1/8"aux to dual rca adapter. that is what i have for my ipod. which then goes to a dual rca to pioneer ext aux plug for cleaner signal. i really want a just in one plug so my ipod will charge also. but that wil come in time.

basically your going to have to buck up the extra cash to get teh right inputs and outputs.

First, in my original post I said I want a rear RCA aux input. Go read it. It says:"I want to buy an HU that has rear RCA aux input." I can't make it any clearer than that.
Second, no I'm not talking about any video input. I never said anything about the video signal. I'm talking about rear RCA aux AUDIO signal input jacks, left and right. The red and white ones. Why would I want a video signal to go into my HU? The video signal goes to the monitor.
Third, what 1/8" plug? I said I do not want any 1/8" plug. Those are on the front and I don't want a wire showing on the front. I could just adapt it to RCAs but I don't want wires showing on the front, that's ghey. If it happens to also have a front jack that's OK though, she can plug her iPod in there if she wants, but I don't care about that, just the rear RCA aux inputs.
This HU doesn't need any outputs at all, but it'll probably end up having one or two just by chance. She won't be running a sub.

you missed the part where i said i now understand you.

the 1/8" plug is in reply to mtlhead and you. my pioneer has an 1/8" in the rear and not front. so it doesn't look ghey.

but most manufatures sell an adapter that will plug into the back of the deck in the cd changer/video control/xm/sirius input. this will come out with just your needed r/l speaker inputs. then you will need a dual rca to 1/8" plug to go into your ipod or mp3 player.

you can also buy an adapter that will go in to the after market deck that will come out with an ipod plug. this will lock in and also charge your ipod. this will also allow you to control your ipod with your deck if your deck has those capabilities.

when i get home i can throw up links of all these parts.

I saw you said you understand but you still said I worred it wrong.
I have never heard of a rear 1/8, didn't understand you were refering to that.
It's not the front jack that looks ghey, it looks fine. What would look ghey is to have a permanently installed audio source use that jack on a permanent basis so there's this wire plugged in it that goes hiding somewhere and is always there.
I got an HU today. It's a Panasonic. It has way more stuff than she needs, like all 3 pairs of outs, and lord knows what else, but it was on wicked clearance and it looks easy to use for a girl LOL. So it has RCA inputs and that's what matters.

you could have just bought an amp for rca ins, and ran those to the rear speakers
we cleared up the parts where hw only wants this for ipod use. no system upgrades.

madbrad i got a nice panasonice for my wife. its full ipod controlable. so she just throws it in the glove box. the deck does it all from there.

Mtlhead you're truly confused. I don't even know what you said.
Neuman I said 50 times I don't want it for iPod. I just need it for the DVD player signal.

This Panasonic is made for iPod. You buy the module to plug into the proprietary plug, and plug your iPod into that, and full iPod display and control is there in the HU, pls it charges it. However we won't be using that feature. Her MP3player isn't an Apple iPod anyway.

nah im not confused...i knew what i was saying, but i guess you didnt understand it, lemme try to explain better

Alright, you want a dvd player's audio for rear speakers, right?
my suggestion was to buy a 2 channel amp, and use the RCA outputs for the dvd player's audio and take those to the RCA Ins on the amp, then the speaker outs to your rear speakers

your original post says you want rca aux inputs. this is for your dvd player. what i was saying is the plug that i have for my pioneer is to go to the changer plug. even tho i have an 1/8" aux plug i don't use it. the pigtail i use goes into the proprietary plug and comes out with a left and right input for audio only. that is the plug i wanted to show you. but i have not found a pic at home of it.

so im pretty sure i understood you. i was also trying to explain stuff to other people. i didn't understand mtlhead but i do know. his idea isn't all half bad. but there is no volume control with that idea.

Well now I get you. So then I can't have the reas as part of the HU's system? and like Neuman said, no volume. Sorry that is not for me.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue.

What I wanted to know is do any factory radios play dvds if you jam the DVD into the casseTte slot hard enough? Then will the speakers become monitors so you can see the picture? BecaUSE I DON'T WANNA HAVE TO DO ANY WORK FOR THIS.
oh damn i hit capslock!
