They are about exactly the same 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 mph.
The Zx2 top speed is governed last time I read about a ZX2.
The top speed for a GT is 120.
Stock for Stock. :)

Black 93 GT 5-speed :-D :)

ZX2 is faster. to 60 in 8.0
2nd gen GT gets to 60 in 8.4 the Zetec crap on the ZX2 is just for emissions, it really doesn´t do much to improve power like it does on the Foci. think of it as a Honda Civic EX vtec compared to the SI vtec. ;-)

i hate to put an escort against an escort, but i think that the zx2 will hang if not serpass the gt. the zetec in the zx2 is the sxact same thing as the focus. EXACT. you can use almost every thing that they make for the focus for a zx2. i ve done alot of parts searching.

Depends on which Focus you´re comparing it to. the ZX2 has less torque than a few of the 2.0 Zetecs in the Focus. some of them use a split single intake port or some technical garble like that, and some are dohc configurations.

The "split single intake port or some technical garble like that" is very much like your VICS, allowing for less of a compromise between low and high rpm torque than a single intake tract.

well when I went to luskville "dragstrip" the other day I saw a stock zx2 with good tires pull 15.9 and I was pulling 16.2.

In my opinion the zx2 is a little bit faster but then again maybe it was the tires.

Now that I´ve done my stuff.....I just feel there are bigger and better game then ZX2´s for me to play with....

but I have to admit stock, in a stock GT to a stock ZX2...I in no way would run my mouth about how I´m going to embarrass it, because its quite probable it wouldn´t happen.

But then compare: 1.8L vs. 2.0L For having more displacement and all the VVTi crap...I would rather have a 1.8L under the hood.

Comparing a 2G GT against a ZX2 0-60 wise is like comparing the 2G GT to a 1G GT. The difference is within half a second, Pimp is right, getting the better R/T and he could take a 2G GT in a race...same goes for me against a ZX2.

Legend: 2G= 2nd gen, 1G= 1st gen, ZX2=ZX2 ;-)

First gen GT´s come nothing close in speed to a 2nd gen GT.
Ive raced one auto Zx2 and beat it like nothing. Then a five
speed Zx2, by one car lenth to 115mhp. Id rather have the GT
made by Mazda. :-D

1/4 mile wise, they´re all within a half a second. So how exactly are they nowhere near each other? if you get the better R/T in your 2G GT then yeah you´ll take an auto ZX2. If that manual ZX2 was trying he would have taken you, but not by much. They have speed governors on there too. ;-)

I would love to see someone post "offical" times for an auto zx2. then again I doubt that ford wants that because the time would be best measured with a calender. My 94 gt 5spd will blow the doors off my 02 zx2 auto. Maybe the 5spd in the zx2 would help, but I would rather have th 2nd gen gt. I drove 5spd zx2 when I was buying my auto, and I wasn´t really impressed. Give me my 1.8 over that damn 2 liter POS any day!!!

Amen. I almost got a ZX2 5speed to replace my horrible Mystique GS. First time in a ZX2 and I was seriously unimpressed. It´s a capable car for sure, and powerful. But it lacked the fun factor that makes the 1.8 GT what it is. I felt that the ZX2 totally lacked personality, despite all of Ford´s marketing attempts with their "Cool" and "Hot" packages (which were nonsense in themselves).

James between a 1st gen and second gen Escort 1/4 times 16.8 for a
first gen and 16.5 for a second gen. Those times are not right. I had a 89
GT with a five speed, and it was bought new by my parents. It was slow
compared to a 2nd gen GT. There is no way the 1/4 times are that close.

As for the 0 to 60 times on a 2nd gen GT, its 8.0, and as for the Zx2, beating
my GT, no way. He isnt the only Zx2 Ive beat either. Ive had two GT´s, Im just trying to let you know
the 1st gens arent that fast, regardless what carstats says. Im not trying
to start any heat either, I have no reason to lie about what Ive posted, I
really honestly dont care though what car is faster. Im just telling my
experiences with my times with Escorts, and Escorts Ive raced. ;-)

Zeemax,
When you say that it lacked the "fun factor," do you mean interior/exterior styling or the driving experience?
Or both?

Oh I think the exterior is sharp. While I love the GT styling, it´s nice to see Ford put a sporty, curvaceous body on the Escort. But the driving experience just doesn´t live up to the expectations put forth on the outside. It didn´t feel a whole lot different than the Mystique/Contour, just smaller (cramped) and lighter.

Once again I will agree and say yes, the zx2 lacks the fun factor. It is the driving equivilant of a saturday afternoon nap. The gt had a feel that just made you wanna tear the road up. the zx2 has a feel that just makes me wanna sleep.
