Hey everyone so I'm thinking about building a 1998 escort zx2. I've been hearing a bunch of stuff about them having tranny issues. Does anyone know what that's about and what I can to solve it.

The transmissions in all Escorts are fairly weak when it comes to making power. You will be much better off with a manual as they are much stronger than the autos. Modified manuals start to reach there limit above 300hp.

Manual or Auto? I used to run in the UCars, SOHC 4 cyl. 2nd gen, went with the 2.0l swap and a 98-99 Zx2 manual. Ran this setup in 3 of my cars. Never had a problem with the trannies. Now I moved up to the Enduoro's, Any 4 or 6 cyl FWD. Got 2 GT's and 2 Intrepids. Last year, near the end of the season, pickup up a 03 Zx2, Auto. She was pretty fast but could not keep up with the GT's. The Intrepids had her 2 laps down in a 30 lap race...
