I find this shifter to be stiff and notchy for the 1-2 gearshift. Also, sitting idle, stopped, sometimes you really have to muscle it to get it to go into 1st gear. When the engine is shut off, however, it should be noted that it goes into first quite easily. It's an annoyance really. Would synthetic transmission fluid help? http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx
That's what I plan on using.

Thanks in advance for your help.

you must have torqued it down too hard underneith.... loosen it, and then torque it down til it is snug. Don't crank it TOO hard

When I put my corksport shifter in my 94' GT the shifting was pretty tight going into and out of gears. I carefully shaved a bit off the ends of each bushing until it fit in the shifter rod perfect without having to force it. But this would only help if you have the bronze-oil bushings as well as the short throw shifter.
