I have a 95 escort lx and I am contiplating on which motor to go with. Both have aftermarket support but which would make the most usable power. I have searched and have read the pro's and cons of both motors on various forums.

If you have a 91-96 then go with the BP. It will be a much easier swap.

bp fo sho. there really aren't ANY good reasons to go with a zetec. unless maybe if you get a really low mileage one for free or something.

I have had a few examples of each. a 94 with a zetec, a 94 with a bp (gtr), a 2000 with a zetec (easiest swap!!)

The BP would be a much easier swap and leaves the door wide open for turbo later at much less cost than a zetec. The Zetec has a quieter valve train and a little bit better usable torque for a daily driver. The BP has its power higher in the revs and runs better than a stock zetec in that range.

Yes the swap is easier on a BP for you. You dont have to swap the tank or change out ALL the wires front to back like you would have to on your 95 with a zetec.

For ease, I would go for the BP. It idles smoother too :)
