looks like it may be a good upgrade from fords "PLASTIC EVERYTHING" cooling system components
I agree. It comes with a stant tstat and sensor. Someone said the price was high for what it is but if you subtract the tstat and sensor cost it comes to around $100 for the housing unit alone.

I'm thinking either polish it to a brushed machined finish or p- coat it some funky color to make it standout!

That looks like it is a Massive Speed Systems component. They also make underdrive pulleys and a bunch of other stuff for the Zetec. Their pulley seem quite well made.

I'm always happy when someone makes a decent part for our cars. Of course good stuff costs a bit of money, but no one has to buy it - it's just an option for those who do want a good part.

From a preliminary check it seems that Massive indeed sells it and is the cheapest from what I can see but I need to dig deeper.

Not for a ZX2.... Only has 1 fitting for the sensors ...
I swapped out the original tstat housing and replaced it with one out of a '98. It has one sensor on top like the one in the link.

Not sure what tstat you have. Do you have a pic of your dual sensor tstat housing?

Just saw the plug in the lower part of the housing.. There are 2 sensors on a ZX2 though, 1 is for the ecm, the other is for the gauge.

thats a good point. the outlets are different as well. it does say contour in the description, possible for a different application

After looking at that and a quick look on line, that is defiantly not for a ZX2..... It looks like one for a Contour or Escape.

There are some aluminum with 2 sensor ports, but the sensors are a different mounting style. That was the first mod we did with our current 2003. I’ll try to send a picture later today.
keep in mind the 2003’s use different coolant than all previous years which cannot be mixed.

So I remember how I worked this.
Called massive speed who makes these. They have two units (a 1 sensor port and a 2 sensor ports).

Tell them you need a two sensor port. Then you need to order sensors and an outlet. Their outlet is aluminum, but it is straight. You need to buy a plastic outlet (low cost at a autozone, advanced auto, etc.) for a previous year escort zx2. It may sound like a waste, but it is absolutely not. The corrosion & associated leaks come from the housing to the head, not from the outlet to the housing.

Thanks for clearing that up!

After looking at the website, the second plug is too small for the sensor... They mention it for use with and aftermarket temp gauge.

I owe you a picture of ours.
Yes, it is small, but they drilled it open prior to shipping per my request.
Just so we're clear, if you want this to work on a zetec engine you have to do 2 things A) Request the 2 sensor model and B) Request that they drill out the sensor port?

BTW which port needs to be drilled?

What size is it?
Generally the sensor ports are pipe thread sizes, 1/8 or 1/4 most commonly. Possibly one could research a sensors with the smaller thread size and find one with the same electrical characteristics as the larger stock one, and simply get one of the former.

So we finally got the head bolted back on yesterday, which reminded me of the pictures(s) I promised…
Again, ask MassiveSpeedSystem.com to drill out and tap the housing for a ZX2 (with the larger lower sensor port). Then purchase a plastic outlet neck and sensors from the earlier model ZX2 (threaded sensors/not clip in sensors). The threaded sensors will not leak like the slip n’ clip sensors.
