Actully yes, a Zetec will bolt in. The Zx2 has the same engine bay and mount location as the 91-96 and 97+ sedans.

It would be best to get a complete Zx2 for the motor, tranny, computer harness, fuel pump, maybe the dash to.
But sine your gonna use a standanlone you'll just need the motor/tranny. You could use the 1.9 tranny if you drill the flywheel bolt holes, but you'll need to add a crank trigger.

yes it can, we are runnign a zxt tranny and engine, but with a stock gt dash in a wagon.
change harness, fuel pump, basically everything under the hood is zx2, and even the gas tank was changed to zx2, dosent let the pump cut out on hard turns like hte gt ones do,

So as I said, it's not a direct bolt in.

I agree, there's no custom parts or welding required, I'd call that a bolt in.

Ok perhaps your idea of direct bolt in and my idea of direct bolt in are two different concepts here.

When the SPI motors drops in and you don't have to do work such as this:

You could use the 1.9 tranny if you drill the flywheel bolt holes, but you'll need to add a crank trigger.
I wouldn't call that a direct bolt in.

thats why you use a ztech tranny, that was mentioned to keep costs down i think. but if a ztech wasnt a bolt in, then a spi isnt always a bolt in. case you still have more thna just dropping the motor in.
but i c your point to, i am not arguing or saying i am right, just my idea of bolt in.

Using the 1.9 tranny (requiring it to be drilled) is just an option. With the use of the Zx2 tranny there is no drilling, welding, cuting or grinding. It's just a matter of unbolting and installing. I'd call that a bolt in.
