    When my mother in law arrived at my house from a 400 mile drive a couple of years ago I opened the hood to find a bigger nest than that, but no rodent.
    There was no evidence of the nest builder around the belt drive, happily.

    When I parked my car at her rural place this fall for a week, I tied some rodent poison blocks in the engine bay just in case. Previously they had shredded the hood insulation on my Escort.

    A bounce dryer sheet is a deterrent to have something move-in under the hood.

    Rodents seem to stay away from them for some reason.

    I can't blame the rodents for avoiding dryer sheets. I also detest the smell. And the waxiness.

    Decades ago we used to put mothballs, lots of them, in containers under the hood, for cars being stored.

    Nothing. The point is getting thieves to move on to another vehicle that is easier to steal from instead.
