ok so this has been bothering me for a while now. i cant seem to find anything about the yellow 2nd gen. drag escort. i remember seeing it on here before but i cant find it again.

now i know that thing has a modded zetec engine with a huge turbo, but what im wondering is what trans and rear end is he using? my guess on the rear end would be either the 8.8 or 9 in rear end with shortened axles. if anyone has pics or a link to where i can see this thing again i would love to see it again. i also wish i could remember what it ran.

It ran a 9.99 quarter mile. And I believe it had the 1.8 BP motor that was turboed with the miata rear end.

It would be possible in either gen, as both are going to take the same extensive amount of custom fabbing one way or the other.

ok well i kinda figured that. i was thinking of doing something similar to a 3rd gen i was given and i wanna go all out on it. now i know that money is definately needed. the only thing i think im going to run into a problem is mating a tranny to the motor and the rear end of course maybe the miata one would work. just as long as it could hold up to the power. i just thought i could get some guidance on the motor. should i go with the bp motor or since its a 3rd gen go with the zetec? then a tranny that could bolt up to it .

It'd be best to make a tube chassis and put the sheetmetal on it. The design of the FWD unibody gives little strength for longitudinal torsion loads. A strong enough drivetrain and enough traction, I'd bet it'd twist the car if not properly braced. I have a 289 and a C4 I had thought of putting in a scort or a festy(you'd be sitting on trans LOL), but $ is always plaguing.

Bingo. If you had ever seen the amount of bracing and strengthening the cars that have been converted to RWD require, you'd jump straight to wanting a tube chassis.

And thats not even with thinking about all the extra work cutting and fabbing just to make shit work on the unibody.

It would be cheaper to just buy a Miata.

But any thing is possible with enough time, money & skill.
No kidding. In the end, you wont be left with anything thats really an Escort other than the shell anyways.
