well today i found a merkur and decided to pull the plate which took forever (long story) anyway got it off and now i am wonder if I can use it. Do i ahve to drill extra holes for it to bot on. and theres these little nubs on the back, do I sand those down. If anyone has done this mod let me know thanks. heres a pic

it will only fit the gt from what i have seen. since the xr4ti and the gt both use VAM's not MAF's. i think the MAF holes are to far apart for this to line up correctally

91-93 GTs used MAFs, 94-96 used VAFs.

It said MAF right on my MAF.

MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor
VAF = Vane Air Flow Sensor

ALL escort GT's from 91-95 used the Vane type sensor. In 1996, The MAF was used instead of the VAF of previous years. (Thanks for the clarification Denis!)

a VAF is only a type of MAF. Specifically, it has a vane inside that swivels open farther the more air flows through, the swivel being attached to a shaft that connects to the sensor to tell the ECU how much air is coming into the engine.

a standard MAF has no moving parts, just a very thin wire element that sits in the airflow, and as the air flows past it, the wire senses how much air is flowing by how hot the wire gets.

But, the XR4Ti and 91-95 EGT both use the Vane sensor, not the wire-type sensor, and the holes are closer together on them.
