Hi All;
I did a bearing and ring job on my old 87 Escort but because the head had a crack I bought a rebuilt one from ebay. It fits the block but when I tried to install the intake manifold I found that the new head (RF-E7EE G7D) has round intake ports and the old one had oval. Is it possible to change the intake manifold and make it work? What was the purpose of the change? :?

That's what I though also. I researched the part codes and the "E7" does designated an 87 head. When I got the gasket it, it had both oval and round intake manifold gaskets. It sounds like a mid-year change.

Pretty sure all the post 87 Escorts had the Tappet system instead to the roller cams. Actually, pretty sure most the 1.9L's were like that.

Having a "non-roller" cam doesn't make an engine EFI. If your car isn't a GT then it is CFI.

I went to Pull-A-Part and browsed the escorts but didn't find any with round intake ports on the head.
What is the engine model difference between the oval and round intake ports?

Don't know what "1G' escorts are.
According to the part code on the head, it is indeed a 1987 Ford Escort head. The gasket set for the 87 does have both the oval and round intake port gaskets so obviously there is a "round" intake manifold for the escort.

1g means 1st gen. In other words 82-90 model years.

Mine is definately First Generation.
The new head is part # RF-E7EE-G7D. The part code is definately for a 1987, which is correct but the round intake ports are a big mystery.

My only other option, if I can't find a manifold is to buy yet another head.
Aggravating !!!!
