Well ladies and gents, I found out today that eventhough the speedometer on my car goes to 85 MPH I can at least reach 92 MPH. Problem is I wish I wouldn´t have found that out on a road that is marked 50 MPH, and by having it clocked by a police radar. I would like to thank the cops who pulled me over for being so understanding, and not hauling my ass off to jail, or giving me a $300 speeding ticket. I know there were atleast two, since I saw at least two squad cars parked behind me, and two different cops came to my window at different times. I do have to go to court for not having my insurance card though. Damn AZ and the manditory insurance laws. I think if you can´t afford to fix your car after it is wrecked, or you are too embarassed to drive a car with a few dings you shouldn´t be driving anyway. People know that if they drive there is a possability there car might get wrecked so if they want to insure it that´s one thing, but it shouldn´t be mandatory. Also since it is mandatiry how is it fair that if I hit a guy with no insurance and a suspended license I still have to pay to get his car fixed and have my insurance go up. But enough complaining, I was really lucky that that is all I was cited for. 42 mph over, although it was on an empty straight road in the middle of the night, is a bit too fast, and I think I will definatley be keeping my eye one the guage a little more. But get me on a track and all of that is out the window. By the way, Radio Shack radar detectors SUCK ASS. I was only a quarter mile away from the cop car when it finally bleeped and by then I had just enough time to slow down enough to pull over right as I passed it.

Well, lucky you. all three of my speeding traps resulted in ticket, and one in court and defensive driving appointments... I still have to say one thing HAHA! 42 over? thats almost twice what my largest ticket was.
You didn´t know your car could hit 92? I used to drive a Geo Metro, and i topped that out at 93 (although unconfirmed, as i didn´t get clocked).
My advice is slow down and be careful, if you want to speed like a mad man, get on a freeway where it´d only be 30 over

I agree radio shack radar detectors suck. Buy a name brand, like the new Escort Passport 8500, or the new Valentine One, sure they´re 300 dollars or so, but they´re the two best that i´ve found.

I know I´m dating myself, but we used to get the biggest kick out of going "P" in my buddy´s ´71 VW Super Beetle. I don´t remember how fast we estimated that to be, but it was way off the scale pointing straight down at the "P" in MPH. Man, those were the days.

He went to his court date and got:
*8pts on his license
*$6k in fines
*6 days solitary confinement down off Deer Valley highway
*And 2400 hours of community service

Remember that was IN AZ. So even though the cops where cool...doesn´t mean a judge will be.

at anyrate you are one lucky SOB. the driving laws in AZ are fairly lax. all you got was failure to provide insurance? I don´t know where you were but in tempe you just mail in proof that you had it at the time and they will throw it out.

on insurance all you are required to have is liability. while it doesn´t fix your car it saves your ass from a lawsuite.

I agree with the law however I think most insurance companies are crooks. progressive however is pretty darn good. their towing service rocks for like $3 a month if you break down they will tow you. not sure if there is a limit. Oh and I love my low low rates progressive

Talking AZ insurance, up here I´m going through State Farm. They are treating me pretty well. I think I pay 75 bucks a month for enough insurance to total a new Suburban (if my little scort could do it).

I figured my car would atleast do 100 MPH, but like I said the speedo only goes to 85 MPH, so I never knew how fast I was going after that. Same on my Mustang, and that pisses me off, cuz I wan´t to know what it´s top speed is. As far as insurance goes I was going through Progressive myself. $150 a month just for the Pimpscort. But that´s not bad considering the insurance I was going through, Farmers I think, wanted $1100 for a 6 month policy after I got into my second accedent. I could just imagine what it would be had I got the ticket for 42 over. As far as the judge goes, the cop only wrote no proof of insurance as the only citation, so even though the speed says 92 on the ticket they can´t convict me for it. They can only go by what the cop puts in the violation section of the ticket. Besides, in the speed box on the ticket it is marked approx. and last I checked the court needs 100% solid evidence that a crime was commited, and an approxamation isn´t 100%.

Im on State Farm with just my 88 egt, no accidents and 1 ticket. When I break it down into month incriments, its like $87/ month ($523 for 6 months)
The only ticket i got was a 74 in a 55. I think the cop had a hair in his ass because it was a bright clear day in northern PA with open highway in the middle of nowhere, and there was no traffic. Oh well, im just lucky he didnt catch me when i was doing 110mph 20 minutes earlier.
Even though our speedometers only go to 85, you can figure out how fast your going by your rpm. you just have to do a little math

Off scot free WOO HOO!!! I took my insurance card into the judge Monday and he dimissed the charges. Now I just have to get it renewed since it expired Tuesday. Also need to get smogged and tagged by the end of this month or I´ll really be in trouble.
