I know we probably have a lot of stories, but I wanna hear escort related ones. What's the worst thing to happen to just your escort, or you while you were in it?

I've survived everything mother nature has thrown at me. Extremly deep snow, whiteouts, extreme downpours, freezing rain, pure ice for a road, small woodland creatures, dogs, and many others.

But when mother nature threw a deer in front of me, the E-scort didn't survive so well. But at least I did

it wasn't in my escort persay, but when I pulled the starter off of Brians 93 GT so I could transplant it to my car we forgot to unplug the battery, so I just about welded the wratchet to the starter.

Then my clutch blew up one night on my way home from work... later on my timing belt broke when i was on my way home with my lunch before class and left me stranded.

well other than blowing up one tranny and destroying another (i stoped driving before it stranded me but when we took it apart another couple miles and it would have fallen apart and self destructed like the first one. the differential pinion shaft sheared the retainer pin off when one of the diff pinion gears siezed to it and if it slid another like 1/4 an inch CRACK it would have been gone.

lets see other than that i put my new motor in it and from day one my alternator is making bearing noise i paid 14 dollars for a stupid pilot bearing (i JUST put a new one in with my act clutch when i did my last tranny and it was already squeaking)... my new one is already squeaking like 1 month later  ive been having stereo issues... my remote wire was pressing up against something in my dash and shorting out.

on a positave note i finally fixed my rear window defroster... stupid fuse :)

I was flying through some S-curves at about 60, stupidly let off the gas while turning, and spun out. I hit the curb, bent 3 wheels, ruined 3 tires, bent both tie rods, and broke the steering rack in half.

O2 sensor died Xmas Eve 1999 at 12:30 am, three hours from anything resembling civilization. Car would not run past 20 km/hr, chugging severely and went through 3/4 of a tank of gas in about 50 km before it finally stalled out for good. Think you can get any help or even a jerry can of gas at that time on Xmas Eve? I didn't like my chances.

It was a crisp -26 deg C out (without wind chill), despite being +4 deg C when I started out four hours before. By pure luck and to my absolute amazement, the car quit 500 m from the only police station within 80 kilometres). Surely the day was saved; our province's finest to the rescue; finally my tax dollars paying off; to protect and to serve...or so I thought. I walked to the Cop Shop, suddenly loving our men in blue, and asked politely if I could sleep in the foyer for the night.

"No, you can't stay because you haven't broken any law. This place is for criminals. Sorry, we're going home to our families. That'll teach you for driving an Escort. Have a nice day." [sic - this is slightly paraphrased for the amusement of this forum].

Ah, 'tis the season for giving, after all. They kicked me out; locked up the station, went home to their cozy woodstoves and left me to my own devices. Bastards. At times like that, punching a cop in the face is actually the right thing to do - at least you get a bed and a roof for the night.

So, I froze in my car for three hours till an overjoyed family member drove out and picked me up (nothing like the holidays to bring a family together). Car ran fine the next day at -20 Deg C.

Merry Xmas, Ho Ho Ho! Never liked that holiday anyway (blower motor died two Xmas Eve's later at -22 deg C - made for a frosty 7 hour drive).

Lessons of the day - when the Check Engine light comes on - deal with it right away...even an O2 sensor can ruin your day. And don't drive on Xmas Eve either.

It is to defy pricks like those two "public servants" that I will keep my rusty POS on the road as long as I can. Long live the Escort!

this was a while ago, I was 15 no license, ridin in the scort with my buddy derek, and he was rollin up a blunt to smoke, so i pull over so he can dump the tobacco from the cigar, and i take off again, I'm driving normally, and right when i take off, i look in the rear view and i have the jakes... right on my ass so i switch lanes, and the cop stays on my ass, i'm like ohhhhhh shit hes runnin the plates, hide the weed, hide the weed!!!!, stashed it under the back seat, and i pulled over into a shopping plaza....

officer asks for license and registration... give him registration, told him i have no license.... so he says give me your name and date of birth, gave him my real name, diff date of birth, so he would think i was 19...
I ask him why he stopped me, he said i was doing 60 in a 35, .. 60, in the scort, in 2nd gear? i think not... but anyway, he asks where i want the car towed to, i was like aawwwwwwwwwwwwwww shiiit.... then he looked at my registration and said, wait, you live at that next light, ill follow you there, so he did, got the car home, and recieved my $354 ticket for driving without a license and speeding, and the weed was not found!! Got lucky, cops out here are a*holes

In my Scort - getting a tire blown out by a random nail or something on the way to compete in an autocross event. Sucked. Lots. But I got better tires to replace.

Not in my Scort - hitting a bad ice patch around a corner and sliding into a decorative rock on someone's yard, re-aligning the steering on my mom's '88 Camry. This corner was notorious though, before me, 4 or 5 others had missed the rock and gone through the yard's fence, so I got off lucky.

lets see my poor escort got t-boned by a kid in a toyota mr2 street racing the third day after I bought it breaking a strut and destroying a passenger door fender and the front bumper. the kid had no insurance so I had to pay for all the damadges to be fixed. my car also has a strange attraction to animals from dogs rabbits and porkupines oh lets not forget an occasional deer and a skunk. I bought my car about three years ago with 90,000 miles on the odometer. it now has 180,000 and the only time i ever had a problem was when my alternator pully nut decided to come off, I lost my belt the pulley and the nut to hold it on. luckily i found the parts back down the highway (except for the nut) about this time the oregon state police shows up to tell me I cant be on the side of the highway so he was nice enough to give me a ride in the back of his patrol car on the hard plastic seat. once I got into grants pass the only kind of replacement nut I could find was epoxy. It worked and I got home without a problem. but that has been the only problem so far

94scortlx19, sounds to me like the cops in your area are really nice, not arseholes. you could have done alot worse for yourself if the cop suspected anything going on in the car.

worse i ever had was in my 88.5 PONY rally car, driving down I-75 at exit 126 my engine detonated. yes detonated, i.e exploded.

sadly i didnt know much about cars at the time, seems the head gasket was blown for the last 5,000 miles and it died.

car actually blew the engine 10 miles back and still ran until it blew up (literally). wasnt the cars fault.

ive never had an escort fail on me for anything that was the cars fault, it was always something i did or didnt do... like tighten the lug nuts and then drive 50 miles...

i actually bought a 96 new of the lot, in late 2001 i fainally paid it off. darn loans.. was fianally going to have money to start fixing it up, i had so far the interior all painte black, fianlly had it in, and in jan of 2002 i hit a 87 accord almost head on , i locked the brakes at like 50, slid the 50 feet till i hit him.. front end was flat, hood crubled, i didnt even touch the air bag, just burned my arms, and just hurt my chest fromt eh belt, i had the car paid off for 6 months. they gave me 5 grand for it, so i bought a 95 gt and springs and a muffler, and some other toys with the money. so it was good and bad.

worst int he gt was at my parents apartments they all of the sudden decided to start towing cars, went inside, came out 5 mins later and it was gone, i thought it was stolen since about 10 cars had been stolen, and countless were broken into, well just a 175 impound fee for 10 mins is what it cost me!

Had the engine blw up on my while driving on the Baltimore Beltway. Cost $4000 for a rebuilt Jasper engine. Has a drunk in a pickup truck slam into the back of the car and push me into a new Lexus. Been hit numerous other times (3X so far this year). I can't repair the body damage fast enough!

3 Months after I bought the car, some punk kids decided to bust in and steal my stereo. But instead of breaking a window, they took a tire iron to the front passenger door and ripped the thing apart.

A week later, on christmas eve, out doing some last minute shopping, some lady in a brand new Dodge Ram, T-boned me. She hit from the passenger rear door all the way to the back end. It was a rough couple weeks.
