i have 94 scort 1.9 auto transmission always ran pretty good... i have had some intermittent idle, stalling and pinging..i was driving and the car started pinging... reved the car up to about 4000 rpm. smoothed out, then bam wouldnt accelerate and wouldnt go over 10mph...
car will start but idles really rough.... and dies... no smoke no noise.. i am at a loss.. could a malfunctioning ecm do this....

Pinging in an escort? :eek: That would be a first for a 1.9L UNLESS you have an intake gasket that was on it's way out, you reved it to 4k and it sucked in a chunk of the gasket, large enough that now you vacuum leak at the head is to the point that it is causing the rough idle and next to no start and now you need to get out the starting fluid and give it a shot ar two at the intake just to confirm that this scenerio actually accured. ;)

And YES...that run-on sentenance was done intentionally. :twisted:

I checked it for shits and giggles.. not the issue.. i think it may have jumped time... no vaccumm leaks, Funny thing to is the check engine light isnt even on.. i verified its function by unplugging air temp sensor...
outside of checking every sensor for resistance... everything checks out...
perhaps ECM??? I mean there was a lot of intermittent idling and acceleration issues....
