I have a 2003 zx2. When I open the door it starts to beep. I've made sure the lights are off and the keys are out of the ignition. I've pulled a lot of fuses and nothing seems to work. I've constantly opened the door and closed it and nothing has fixed it. I've unhooked the battery and rebooked it back up. I'm really confused and don't know what else to do.

LOL, If that happened to me and i knew for a fact that my keys and headlights were off, i would bolt my ass out of the car faster than Bolt can finish the 100 meter.

first thought would be to check the ignition switch module or the door switch modules may be stuck and making that sound. or another issue could be the air bag module beeping. ( i heard it beeps when the airbag light burns out) so put the car on pre-start and see if the air bag light goes on then off as it should) if it does not turn on at all on pre-ignition then its burn out and that is most likely the culprit.

i am a simple men, who has solid cognitive skills and i know when my damn light and belt and door are locked.

i would just find the friggin beeping device and jank it out. and be over with it. you know if you don't feel like going around looking for switches here and there but whatevs.

There is a chime module somewhere under the dashboard, on the left side I think. It should chime when you have the door open and the key is in the ignition, and if you shut the motor off and have the light still on., The module also does other things however.
My Escorts are all 2nd gen ones, and the chime module works right on all but one of them. I figure it could be a bad module, or bad wiring feeding to the module for another of its functions.
I like to defeat the beeping if I have the door open and the key in, which just requires snipping a wire on the ignition switch. But I like to leave the chime function that reminds me if I shut off the motor and still have the lights on.
I would presume the 3rd gen Escorts have more complex functions run by that chime module.

Check that the ignition switch is turned all the way to the locked position when the key is removed. The one in my '94 is worn and the key can be removed before the switch actually gets all the way to that position and will allow the chime to activate even though the key is out of the ignition.

sounds like the door switch is working correctly in his case.

sounds like either the headlight switch or the ignition switch is faulty.
