Well today I was working, setting up 14 new computers at a Dodge dealership in town, and when 5:30 hit and I was done, I had the sudden urge to drive a brand new fully loaded SRT-4. Now they handed teh keys to me (yes, they handed the keys of a $30,000 car to a near 19 year old guy) and told me to take it out for a drive, they were busy, so they were just going to trust me. Now, I didn't spin the tires on this thing (cept for once shifting into 3rd), but this car was fast. It has 240hp, and does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. Now I've read bout the engine swaps, but even with the 1.8 or 2.0, am I going to be able to even come close to a car that can do this??? By the way, I would highly recommend taking one of these cars out on a back road, I was fed up with following behing a guy at 75kph, so I dropped it down to 3rd and under less than 2 seconds, I was over 120, and u could just feel the car going. It had power, sound (engine), handling/suspension, but was lacking in looks and stereo. Now if I can't get this type of power from my escort, am I going to get anything close??? Cause I've always had this urge or pulling out beside a nice sports car, dropping her down a gear or 2, and just leaving it behind me like I did to this car today, and I wanna be able to do this on a regular basis if I have to!!!

It will take a good amout of money and time to do so, but I dont know what the turbo Scorts on the boards run, but a SRT-4 stock (no slicks) puts out a 14.2 to 14.5 1/4 mile time

But you are right the SRT-4 is an awsome car, There is a few around here where I live that are monstars. Stock Turbo, upgraded fuel setup, and 75 shot of Nitros, running 11.2 in the 1/4, unbeliveable

If you swap in a GTX you'll... well, you'll be in that range, I'm pretty sure... You'll be in the right area, at any rate. :\

After you do that, ask the guy in the sports car to do some curvy roads with you. Let me know how it goes.

A 2200 lb Escort only need's 160 whp to run a 13.9 (under good conditions)

My 2.0 Pony has 167whp / 188wtq. (on a hot day with a really bad tune)

Theoreticly my Esocrt is slightly faster than the stock SRT-4 you drove.

hehe
2.4 16 valve @ 12?psi vs. 2.0 8 valve @ 8psi.

I took a 2003 Mach 1 out for a drive yesterday. I could get rubber in 4 gears. It was very fast.

A GTX swap and proper fuel managment...300 HP is possible. Problem is traction. You would really need to work hard to get the needed traction.

1st the SRT4 is 20,995 base. No options will surmount to 9000 dollars.
2nd the motor has around 250ish... they advertised the rated power at 215 and then sport compact car spun the Dyno at 223 on the first run. So for 2004 they put out some corrected rated numbers & gave the car an LSD (which it desperately needed).

The Escort with a turbocharger, suspension, a good tranny and some sticky rubber could hang with a stock or even slightly modded SRT4. They run low 14s much like WRXs and 99+ Mustang GTs.

I think you should get one...I want one. but I"d take a WRX first for the AWD.
