What I'd expect from re-refined used oil is that all the weaker molecules have broken down in previous useage and have been removed, and that it probably has more refinement and testing done to it than fresh stock. Ergo, you're left with oil that's less likely to sludge, burn or break down. Probably almost like a synthetic, but instead of it it going through a plant to be modified, it went through someone elses engine, first which "used up" all the sludge and gum tendencies out of it, then was processed back to pure oil again. Heh, I bet if the same stuff was processed over and over again (Returned used, re-reprocessed) and went round and round through dozens of engines, then you'd end up with an oil that could go 10s of thousands of miles between changes.....

That's an interesting hypotosis Roady, but there's a fly. All the oil is probably dumped in one big tank to be re-refined (is that a real word?).
But it's like home made bio-diesel: your using the old oil twice, thus less bought from the 9-11 kamikazes!

new oil isnt as clean as recycled oil too....

especially with heavy machinery, they tell you that if you are using new oil that it must be run through a filter before it enters the resevoir....it doesnt meet specifications for particulate count for bearings
you should run the oil through a filter regardless if its new or recycled, but recycled oil is filtered, plus it has all the additives restored.

you change your oil not neccessarily because its "dirty", but because of the additives breaking down in it, and they must be replenished. the oil you buy to put in your motor(in taking about the petroleum based stuff, synthetics are in a different league) are 22-35% additives. 8O

It depends were you live, here the super tech is the same; as say havoline.

Its because here in north carolina its pumped into the refinary in one pipe, then after being refinedm its sent into one tube to a truck that takes it to a botteling plant.

So here your just paying for the name.
