I got this idea from a thread on the generation 3's. My '88 Pony has 483,743 miles and has never been rebuilt. Just pour in quart of oil about every 1000-1200 miles and keep driving it. After reading the mileage on some of the generation 3's I figure some of the generation 1's should be very high mileage.

I knew you were an exception to the high mileage rule. In those 5 you should have over 2,000,000 miles left in them. The question is are you going to wear them out or are they going to wear you out?

My EXP has 153k, and on its...I stopped counting how many engines and engine rebuilds I have put in that car. The original engine blew up at 134k

We complain about Fords...but when it comes to retarded, ass-backward engineering Chrysler wins hands down.

My vote would be for the 80's GM products. Smog control....yeah. Nothing controls the smog, and saps power, like air pumps, low compression, poorly jetted carbs, and early generation catalytic converters that like to fall apart inside and block the exhaust.

After that I'd say AMC with severe electrical problems.

My 1985GT had 160,000 miles on it before the engine blew. And yes I drove it pretty agressively.

Are you rebuilding the engine or getting rid of the car?

About 180k on my '89 LX 2 door 5spd. Still running strong! Gets 35MPG consistently (mainly stop/go driving). No weird mechanical noises, strong tranny and bearings and engine internals - even in this cold [email protected]# weather!

Well, some of us who have posted here awhile have stated our mileage a time or 2 in other posts. Mine has 140k (the one in my sig), and leaks or burns some oil but I can't figure out how much, lol. The oilpan is always coated w/oil, though I never see any drip off, so there must be some leakage. After the shop replaced my timing belt recently, I mentioned that the oilpan was coated w/oil and asked the manager (not the one who did the work) if he thought the seal at the crankshaft pulley was leaking and he claimed that they would have checked that when they replaced the timing belt, so he believes it's the gasket instead, instead of that seal.

After the mechanic replaced my belt, he claimed the oil was low so he added a quart, lol. There is some light smoke from the exhaust but it doesn't smell like a lot of burned oil smell. I should do a compression test on the cylinders. I have difficulty trying to read my dipstick, as I mention in this thread: Hard to read engine oil dipstick level

When I joined this forum about a year ago, i went back thru some old threads and read the Roll Call thread and kind of got to know the people here and their rides a little bit.

I got rid of it in Oct 1995, when I bought my 1995LX to replace it. Hence the had part of my original post.
