Hey Jeff,

How are you doing?

I know you bought your 97 SPI from a junk yard...but was it some kind of u-pull it or one where you have to ask some guy to take it out for ya? ....

Cauz i want to get a SPI as well to work on during the winter season...but i'm pretty sure the junkyard around here will want too much for this engine...and there is no 97 + escorts in my local u-pull it...

Guess i'll be making some calls anyways on monday...but i'd still like to know in what kind of place you got it cauz i'd like to have for cheap...

Mine was from a salavage yard the specialzed in newer crashed car's. They have pole barn's with the shelves full of pulled motor's. You just go there with a pick up truck, give them the money and follow a dude with a fork lift, they drop the motor in the back of the truck and your on your way.

back to the original question...

I transplanted a BPT in an escort LX... and I'll agree with Jeff on this one... for having done a CVH to BP transplant.. it's a daunting task... yes, physically it will bolt right in, but getting it to run is another thing... first off, it will cost you A LOT in parts, because almost everything needs to be changed: tranny, axles, motor mounts, ECU, mass air flow (to vane air flow meter)... you even have to change the coolant overflow tank and windshield washer tank if you don't wanna extend the wires...

now the really tough part is not buying the parts.. that's easy once you've found a donner GT... it's changing the entire wiring.... inside out... a lot of F words came out of my mouth when I got to that!!! hahahaha...

overall, I wound say, if you're willing to spend about 4500$ and A LOT of energy, go BPT... the mazda 1.9l turbo engine is basically the same as the MAZDASPEED miata, has a turbo and kicks ass... you wanted a torbu, that would be the way to go...

if not, I suggest you go with the Ford 2.0l SPI... THAT will bolt right in...
