Well I think its time for my escort to depart from me... On my way home tonight everything electronic just shut off...the car was still running nicely but everything else just stopped working... what could be wrong any ideas? and do you think its worth worrying about considering everything has broken off of it in the past week..should I try fixin this bad boy up or just look for a new toy... any thoughts, ideas, comments in general are welcome...

Whenever electronics start going goofy, start checking grounds. Follow the negative battery cable to where it meet´s the car body.. disconnect it, clean the contact areas with sandpaper and reconnect it. There should also be a strap or wire connecting the engine block to the body, remove, clean and reconnect it as well.
Have you checked your fuses yet?

I usually keep my cars until they disintigrate. I keep the car up pretty well so it is almost always cheaper to put in the repairs than to buy a new car. Even spending a few thousand dollars to keep the car for a few more years is probably more economic than buying a new car. If you haven´t kept the car up, and you are just looking for a very cheap car or a used car, it might be better to get rid of the escort.

For the love of God man, if you´re going to take off the grounds, PLEASE make sure nothing is currently on, LOL. I was installing a phone system once, holding onto the cabinet, not paying attention to him as my partner d/c´ed the ground cable to it. Yeah, I got zapped...was NOT fun. The car is going to put out quite a bit more voltage than that little system is using. So just please be careful ;-)

Hmm....was it idling when this happened, or did it die while you were driving?

One common electrical problem with 2nd gen scorts is the ignition switch. Maybe yours is getting flakey, like sometimes it thinks its off even when you have the key on.

Hope you figure it out....those intermittent problems really suck! :-(

Yeah I know my ignition switch is going to hell in a hand basket it always gets stuck in the start position or it starts then kicks itself into the off position.... but I think I figured out what the problem was...due to a horrible shift in weather conditions I believe my battery cable flexed a bit and loosened up around the terminal... oh well it works now so Im happy..
