Wow, I´m starting to get jealous of all these Euro Escorts that are jooining the Board.

Here´s the breakdown:

81-83 1.6 Carburated
84-85 1.9 MFI Turbo, or CFI
86-90 1.9 MFI H.O. (no turbo), or 1.9 CFI
91-96 1.9 SEFI, or 1.8 DOHC (Made by Mazda)
97-02 2.0 SPI (SOHC) 2.0 Zetec VCT (DOHC)

They range from 85-115 HP nothing spectacular

1st Gen
Pony base and LX models: 1.9L with 88 hp and 110 lb ft if I´m not mistaken.
GT models: 1.9L H.O. SOHC with 107 hp and 115 lb ft torque.

2nd Gen
The pony, base, and LX models have a (don´t know the engine code) 1.9L I4 engine putting out 88 hp @ ? rpm and 110 lb ft torque @ ? rpm.

EGT, Escort LX-E and Tracer LTS have the BPD8 1.8L I4 engines pushing a 9.0:1 compression ratio making 127 hp @ 6500 rpm and 114 lb ft @ 4500 rpm.

3rd Gen
LX and SE: 2.0L SOHC with i dunno how much power :)
SE: 2.0L DOHC w/ 130 hp and 125 lb ft torque (?)

ZX2 generation
2.0L w/ split port intake and 130 hp and 125 lb ft torque (?)

Some of these might be off, my main area of expertise is the 2nd gen GT 1.8...because that´s what I drive. (click the blue link in my sig to see my car). hope this helps and some of that information isn´t TOO far off. ;-)

Are you sure on that? I was looking at Escorts back in late 86-early 87 and ended up with an 85.5 because of the 1.9L

Also you missed EFI. :)

84-85 might be 1.6 turbo. About the EFI, EFI means Electronic Fuel Injection. MFI and CFI are types of EFI. MFI is Multiport, and CFI is Cental

Our ´Scorts have carb engines in the 1.3 and 1.4´s then in the 1.6 and 1.8 we have Zetec blocks as in the Focus´s, the 1.8 came in 3 versions aswell, there´s a 105ps, 115ps and 130ps engine in the convertibles

Mines a 115ps but wont be soon!!!!!!

Had head work done, skimmed, ported 3 angled seats, wild cams and NOS 25bhp!!!!! :-D :-D

Convertable Scorts. That blows my mind. I believe the 1.8 there was still a ford block though, and not a Mazda Engine.

Bonus:
British to English Car talk Translator...
Skimmed = Milled
Rolling Road = Dyno
I´ve also heard the british use the term Gas Flowed which is what we call Ported

P.S. James, You keep sending money, and I´ll keep sending you info.

btw what´s the difference between your way of saying the power rating (PS)and HP?
Horsepower is just wattage. 1 hp=746 watts of power

So 127 hp * 746 watts = 94742 watts That´s all that is. Torque is what I want ;-) (hence my deep love for Camaro Z28s and SSs)

Ok let me explain. we express power put out by a car engine is horsepower. (hp)
Horsepower was developed by whats his face Watt. One horse can make 746 watts of power.

So 1 hp = 746 watts

2nd gen Escort GTs produce 127 hp @ 6500 rpm SO...

127 hp * 746 watts = 94742 watts @ 6500 rpm. That's all I was getting at

Torque is what you want though. massive V8 torque. 8O
