Hello all:
working on a dune buggy application that has a mid 80s 1.6L front wheel drive escort engine. Its bolted to a VW transaxle. The 1.6L engine is locked up, and we are looking for another engine. Can any of you tell me what other Ford engines, have the same bolt pattern as the 1.6L? Perhaps the 1.9L? maybe 2.0L Zetec? (had a 2.0L Zetec in a 1992 Tracer and LOVED this engine)..... Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

ok I want photos of this bad boy buggy.
That being sad the late 80s 1.9l should bolt up. The HO GT motor is a rather fun motor.
I think early ztecs from the 3rd gen escorts will bolt up too but I could be wrong.

Now if a SVT focus ztec bolted up that is what Id go with. It has 170 hp if I recall and revs like mad.

Any CVH/Zetec (1.6 - 1.9 - 2.0)
Any pushrod 2.3/2.5 (Tempo/Taurus)
Any OHC 2.3/2.5 (Mustang/Ranger/Pinto)
And any 80s liquid-cooled VW-4s believe it or not

wait for real? Why am I building cvh when I could have a 16v out of a gti or something?
Lol no the 2V liquid 4-cylinder VW which despite what hipsters insist are a downgrade from a CVH

Unsure what difference there may be with the bellhousing pattern of a 16v VW but I know the blocks are slightly different than the 2v

A lot more after market support for the 2 and 4v VWs here in the US. I think the bellhousings pattern is the same but its been to long since I worked with them

Did you change the engine? If so which ford engine did you go with. Interested to see the Ford 1.9 H.O. in a rear engine placement. I have an 87 vanagon and once owned an 87 Ford escort exp sport. That Ford would move, and got great fuel mileage
