This part on my Automatic Transmission is leaking very badly and I really have no clue what the part is called, if it has a name. Its on the driver side of the transmission when mounted right around the wheel well guard and had a line connected to it. Its slowly leaking tranny fluid and looking for a part name. Any help would be great! Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!
That is the outside of the transmission oil pump, which pumps fluid around the auto transmission. They all pickup a lot of rust on the outside, being located right where the water gets spattered onto them. It has evidently rusted enough to be leaking. I dont think its repairable, but I have seen folks on ebay selling rebuilt oil pumps. There is a used one on sale now (Thursday Oct.18th), item # 332790120382. The thing can be unbolted from the side of the trans, and pulled off. Hopefully there would be enough room, because it has to slide out about 3" inches to clear the innards it plugs into. Then a rebuilt one can be slid into place; and the bolts tightened up. You might need a new paper gasket for the rim where it sits on the case of the trans, but probably any reputable seller would also supply a new paper gasket. Your Escort transmission is an F4EAT model; aka 4EAT-F. There are two versions of it, one for the cars from 1991 to 1997. The other version is for the Escorts from 1998 onward. I dont know if there is any difference to the oil pumps for the two versions though.
When you go to remove the pump, the shaft which spins it may try to come with it. You can just push that back into the case. The splines on that shaft will have to be lined up, both inside the oil pump and inside the torque converter, or the pump wont go back on all the way. A quick jerk with the starter might help line them up - while someone pushes in on the oil pump.

The rebuilt oil pumps I have seen went for about $175-$225. Most any transmission rebuilder selling hard parts is likely to have them too. When I work on an Escort transmission; I try to clean the oil pump, and give it a coating of rustoleum dirty metal primer, followed by a coating of rustoleum gloss black. This to hopefully forestall one of mine rusting out. I own three Escorts with this same transmission & oil pump, and three more of them in my extended family.

Some sellers refer to this part as the 'front pump',which is kind of a misnomer. The transmission only has this one pump! If you had a 49 Buick - that trans had two pumps

Though the oil pump shown in your pictures look rustier than any of mine, you might want to check that the leak is not from one of the rubber hoses on the metal lines going to the oil cooler in the radiator.

If you happen to be in the Midwest- look me up- I've got 2 complete Automatics I'd sell cheap. One still in a car that has 121K and one that is already out that had 173K.
Goodluck with your swap regardless! :)
