Today i was about to buy a new car. A 96 Escort Base H/B, no power steering, 5spd, i guess you could say a 96 pony. Well we took it for a ride (me and my dad), and found that it is in dire need of a major brake job. ANd just looking under the car we found that it has many rusted/corroded part. Like the brake lines, looks and seems like it could be a problem. The lack of power steering dont bother me, little car. BUt the salesman was a mother flyer. ooohhh did he piss me and my dad off. Well ill list what it needs...Drum rebuild...(10-15$)...Rotors (2 at 20$ a peice) Pads ( 20 bucks a set), Clutch, synchros, and all the fluids need to be changed.

well he goes all of that can get fixed for like 100 bucks, well the brakes at least. And he stickered the 96 base H/B at 1500. Well hell drop it to 1350 making it roughly 1500 out the door. FOr this f**ked up car. Was i wrong to stick my nose up at it, or should i go back and buy it? or just fix up my 1st gen and be different?

That car is not worth it, unless you could haggle him down quite a bit... You'll have to fix it up before you can even legally drive it on the road. Of course if that's what you're looking for, a cheap fixer upper, then go back and give it a second thought... I will never buy a car from the Nissan dealership for what they did to me, and I suggest you do the same with that dealer.

It's really up to you though.

alright if i stick with this one gen, im gonna make it look and drive like a GT...swap motors and yea thats about it. And also im gonan need some parts and dress up items, here and tehre. So matt, do you think you could get me some prices on seats, if i go with somethin other the the GT seats? and a cat back? just send me a PM

Racing seats? I'll see what I can come up with. A cat back should be fairly easy. Justin has a 1gen and we have already looked at it for our next project. So once we finish the 2gen system we could start on that.

Find a different Escort. Forget the old one. The 1st Gen Escorts are inferior to the 2nd gen ones. I had a 1989 GT and loved it. I then got my 1992. I never realized how much better the 2nd ones were. Night and day difference. There are more performance parts available for the 2nd gen's. I personally liked the looks of the 1st gen EGT's. They looked more aggressive, but after one drive in my 1992, I prefered the nimble handling, extra power and better braking that 2nd gen had to offer.

well i thought about that, but the hatch on my first gen is a little bit bigger then a second gen. And i to noticed the huge difference, but i want a little hatchback, thats gonna be reliable and loud...i want a sounds car. i like speed, but when i want that taste i ask my uncle to drive his 1989 Turbo Trans am....i love that thing. And besides this car has been a great car. I had to change the cv shafts once, and its an 89. Trans is in Perfect shape. its got less miles then most of the cars here. But im gonna be different and keep my 89 LX, and my plans are as follows. Get the bumpers skirts, and grill off of a first gen GT, and then rebuild the motor. (1.9 HO) Make that as powerful as i can with keeping it N/A. Paint it either a silver or a black, (i was dubbed the color Aqua for my neons that were given to me) tint the windows, power locks, and windows. and put one kickin sound system in...ALL ARC audio. Hopefully wiht a placing at Nopi Nationals theyll sponsor me. So ill be posting pictures as soon as i get this started. And this car wont be for speed, it will be mainly sounds, and have to look halfway decent. And ill still be sportin the FEOA and ERDT stickers, and itll will be kick arse if i get this goin the way i want it to.
