I was a guitar salesman. Now I'm a professional bum -- AKA musician. I plan on getting ASE certified and learning upholstery, and then trying to get a job in a hot rod shop.

I got a job on May 7th at Sun Motor Cars (Sun Motor Imports Inc). http://sunmotorcars.com/ The dealer is quite large and has 4 buildings. 1 is BMW, 1 is Mercedes, 1 is Porsche/Audi, and 1 is an air conditioned 30,000sq ft Collision center. I work Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. The BMW, Mercedes, and Collision center are all in the same area. The new Porsche/Audi building hasn't been built yet at the new location.

I work in the Collision Center. I'm currently a "painters assistant". I do all the prep work (wipe down/clean the panels or cars for prep. Then scuff edges, make sure all body work is straight when it comes over, then get out my DA and go over the clear with 800 till there is no orange peel left in the clear and its all dull, clean again, and mask. They are starting to have me do primer work also which is no biggie and I should be doing paint within a few months starting with cutting in panels and then doing blends and all that.

The parking lot out back of the Collision Center has NO markings on it. It will be used for a cone course and there is talk about marking out for a skid pad and also putting sprinklers into the lot. It will be used for some track stuff (Some Porsche techs race), test drives, and diagnosis of any problems.

On the side I do upholstery, fabrication, and body/paint. Side work is "little" right now due to too many projects and my job. I turn away a lot of side work.

Retired 5 years ago. Was a civilian with the Navy Department, one of the minions that dealt with defense contractors making weapon systems.
Now I get to fiddle with my old cars full-time, except for the wife's list of 'to-do' stuff.

holy cow after reading some of these jobs like Yoda's and a few others my life really honest and truthfully seems useless..

I've been un-employed for over a year and NO i haven't been living on welfare I'm 21 and still living at home but hopefully not for to much longer. when i DO work its as a shipper receiver and I've worked for some prety big companies like:
    Canadian Tire
    Best Buy
    Sears Canada

but I've also done ALOT of other jobs everything from Landscaper to line cook and dish B!tch in Shoeless Joe's restaurant. I hope to get my life somewhat together but I wish i had listened to my folks and didn't get kicked out of 2 highschools

I feel you pain dude. I was in the exact same situation when I lost my first job. I was unemployed for a year before I found my current gig and even now I still live at home because I can't support myself with it. I think I will start looking for something else next year, something that doesn't require a 40 min commute.

I wish I got paid $10 an hour. At least it isn't a bad place to work and management is nice.

I just made journeyman insulator in June. Definitely not what I would have pictured myself doing, but that's what happens when you waste your parents college money partying instead of going to class, lol.

I enjoy it a lot though, and the pay is actually really good. Now if I could only stop the wife from spending it while we try to dig ourselves out of debt, I'd be set, haha!

Since the beginning of this thread I've done a few things.

I worked in a body shop for a while, doing paint prep and random other stuff.

Right now I am unemployed and a full time student at Oklahoma State Universtiy (GO POKES)! I will be graduating with a bachelors degree in Wildlife Ecology this coming May. It will be the end of 6 years!

When this is all over, I am going to join the Peace Corps.

When it's all said and done, I'll have 11 years of post-secondary University. I work my sack off between full time work and part time studies.

Find out what you want to do and get it done.
