Finally was nice enough to work with the door open, completed the engine and trans removal.

Messed around (fought) and finally got the steering rack bushings swapped out. The driver's side caused the most grief...
Went to the parts store to compare throw out bearings- poured over their catalog trying to find a bearing that might allow me to use my 2nd gen Aluminum Flywheel with my 1st gen Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch on my 3rd gen 2.0L SPI (without having to modify the clutch fork or anything else down the line)... I went ahead & ordered one that looks promising. I'll be sure to share the info on here if it works out. Chances are- I'll be paying a small restocking fee.

Replaced the passenger rear strut tower and ordered struts for it. Drove it around town and bit and to work this morning.

Received the clutch kit that I was hoping would contain the disc that would get my car back on the road today, but no dice. :( the friction disc is riveted to the opposite side of the hub as on my other discs around here & the spring portion of the hub is hitting the flywheel bolts... I reckon that it was done that way on purpose (for the 2nd gen GT flywheel apparently has the raised sections to the mounting surface). I submitted an inquiry to Valeo (the maker of three of the clutch discs I have sitting here)- asking about the availability of standoff rivets so that I could drill these out & swap the splined portion of the hubs between two of my discs. It would only take 3 standoff rivets instead of the 16 it would take to move the friction disc to the opposite side of the hub...

Use some Longacre 64150 insulating material and some spray-on upholstery glue to wrap it...

I shampooed the left front carpet where a large coffee with cream and sugar spilled a week ago, just at the beginning of a road trip. It seems okay so far, the wash water came out dark brown, the rinse water came out dark brown, second rinse came out dark brown.

It's just like when I rented an apartment with a friend years ago. No matter how many times you rinse the carpet, the water still comes out dirty brown.

This past few weeks : dropped the cross member, replaced sway bay bushings, new R&P assembly; new PS hoses, new spark plug wires...Still have to pull the metal PS lines again so I can remove the ends...came out leaking fluid..too loose on the inner O-ring, I guess...
    Ahh, new O2 sensors,too.

I am impressed! Replacing that rack and pinion assembly was a big job for me; I have had to do it to two of my Escorts. I have to work outside, with the car jacked up - and dealing with some fire ants that wanted to move in.
The high pressure p.s. line that comes out of the power steering pump, and the next hose that connects to it; both of them need to have a white nylon sealing ring installed at the upper ends of the threaded fitting. New high pressure lines sometimes come with the sealing rings installed, sometimes they dont. The nylon ring is a Dorman 82540. The bubble pack has two of them in it, but one is smaller. The larger one is the one to use. For each of the fittings, being extra tight isnt what stops leaks, its the sealing rings.

Love it! My steering wheel is starting to show it's age. I'm gonna start hunting for a clean steering wheel out of a Tracer.

I have cruise control. Will the connections on the wheel match up to the Escort ones? Is there a particular Tracer model that these come out of?

You’ll need to find a 3rd gen wheel, from either a wagon, sedan or zx2. And I think zx2 came with leather wheels

If ZX2's are leather wrapped then it should be fairly easy to find.

Junkyard find, someone modified a GT bumper to something and I cant figure out from what car it came from. But anyway, top is busted but gonna use my LX bumper to fix that.

    20190527_112913.jpg

Also got me a GT bumper from a fellow member on FB's feoa.

I like the top one. What car did it come from? I may have a rear spoiler solution. Hit me up and I'll clue you in.

When's that GTX getting installed? Is that a Fury in the background?

....GT-R... and it's waiting to get tuned, it turns over, so soon. And that's my daily while the wagons down, my 65 Ford Falcon. It's getting a 3 inch drop Sunday. 20180614_082518.jpg
