Hey guys. What brand of aftermarket replacement headlights do you guys recommend I get for my escort? I know some of you have got new headlights for your cars. I need the 91-96 style ones.

I bought a set of brand new "Eagle Eyes" headlights to replace my 17 year old headlights that were on the car. And plain and simple, they suck. The reflective housing inside is not a real reflective housing. It is just a shiny paint, but it throws the light in a weird pattern and does a terrible job of lighting up the road. I even tried throwing in some 100Watt bulbs and it still doesn't light up the road as good as the old yellowed, foggy OEM with stock 55w bulbs did...

So any brands out there that you guys have used and liked?

Thanks.

I bought a set of the Eagle Eye headlights in 06 and I loved them, they lit up the road so much better than the old yellowed ones with some stock sylvanias. Not sure what the story is on the lights in my EGT right now but they have absolutely no yellowing on them, they look original, but unsure. I think aside from the Eagle Eye brand on ebay, all there is are the e36 light mod.

wierd... my eagle eyes have chrome colored inner housings. I know mine are several years old... maybe they changed the design at some point. You could always take them apart and paint the inside with chrome paint.

Well it was one of two options. Try Eagle Eyes again, or get new OEM ones from Ford. But they wanted about 150 apeice for the lights...

I tried to take the plastic lenses off of the eagle eyes because they were fine and to put them on the original OEM housings because the reflective housing was still perfect(just the lenses were yellowed), but I couldn't get the lenses off the OEM ones. Ford must use aircraft glue to attach the lenses to the housings.

Anyways, I found another brand on one ebay store. TYC makes replacement lights for the escorts. I'm gonna give them a whirl.

you can use a heat gun to soften the adhesive on the OEM lights... that's what we used to do back when Ken and I make custom 3rd gen lights.

Big Dave, I tried the heat gun, I tried the oven. I actually started to melt the black plastic of the headlight I had it so hot. The glue was still stuck. I'm sure I just fluked out and had a bad pair of the Eagle Eyes or something, but I may as well get the TYC's to check 'em out.

Thanks for the input guys.

no prob. They must have used much better glue on the 2nd gens than the 3rd gens... as the 3rd gens are easy to take apart.

Go figure... 2nd gens take more work.

Anybody got links to the Eagle Eyes and TYCs that you guys are talking about?

What's the difference? Either of them have glass lenses?

Eagle Eyes are usually on eBay for sale. I just took a pic the other day:

And for my knowledge, all Escort lenses are plastic. I have never seen a glass lense... even the Laser headlights are plastic.

When I had my car painted, the shop got me replacement headlamps. With their upsale, I only paid $70 a piece for them. I don't know of the brand, but they are OEM quality. I say talk to a body shop, those guys can have some connections.

Uhh. I see a yellow glob in your turn signal lens Dave. :D I have the Silver Star bulbs in mine to get rid of the yellow since that was the main reason behind getting the clear lens. I need to buff my head lights, they are getting a yelloe tint again. :(
some states are more strict than others concerning the color of indicator lights. I used to have clear bulbs in mine, but don't need to draw any more attention to my car than I already get.

Yeah see Dave THAT is what the reflective surface should be. Mine is nothing close to that. And what pattern of beam do those hadlights throw dave? Because not only are mine un-reflective, but the light gets sprayed everywhere in splotches. It's almost like what an hid bulb looks like when you put it in a non-projector housing. I'll take a picture of mine to show you guys what they look like.

yeah, I am guessing you either got a set out of a bad batch, or they changed thier design, and screwed up the lenses. Mine project like the OEM lights as far as I know. It's been quite a while since I actually had the car out at night to use them.

Certainly not. Ha, it almost makes driving dangerous. Before I put the 100W bulbs in, it was a little sketchy. At least for now with the 100 watters, they throw enough light out to somewhat illuminate the road... But yah, I would rather have the stock 55/65 watt bulbs in and have good lights...
