this is the kinda stuff that angers me...... check out this website

http://www.andysautosport.com/ford/

look at the difference in the ammount of stuff they have for 2nd gen scorts, compared to 3rd gens, and the new ZX2s. they don't even have anything for 1st gens.... so even though that doesn't COMPLETELY leave me out, that just screws over 1st gens...... but they still don't have any engine upgrades/mods for 2nd gens, besides exausts..... PLUS, it's hard to find engine mods new from anyplace these days. i'd like to keep my car a sleeper scort..... maybe lower it a little and modify the suspension, but i'd like to eventually get a turbo plus an intercooler on my scort, and maybe even a 50-75 shot of NOS haha if i can find the right price that is...... but, i'm looking at an early 90s F-150 right now, i haven't checked it out, but i'd really like a truck..... i wonder if i can convince my dad to buy it, and let me drive it, and keep my scort, that way i could have a truck to take hunting, and out info the fields and stuff when i gotta drag my fricken deer out, plus, i could store my scort for the winter. plus, i could lug around my dirtbikes with it...... hmmmm i wonder

Not too many manufacturers are going to make performance products for a 1st gen Escort because it's not really a tuner's car persay. You see Hona products because there's millions of kids out there with them. 1st gen Escorts aren't really that popular in the "tuner" network as they are the "buy this cheap car and drive it until it falls apart" network.

check out what i did to my car with photoshop......

i removed the little license plate holes in the front, i removed the windshield washer fluid nozzles, i fixed a small paint chip on the left hand front edge of the hood, i finished out the rest of the grill with the slots, i totally blackened out the windshield, made the stock headlights a bit brighter, and i gave the driving lamps a bluish tint to them, because they were looking a little yellow.... also, i painted the hood latch behind the grill black, as well as somethings behind the bumper on the bottom haha how's she look?

Up untill recently, the amount of aftermarket parts for the first gens was considerably greater than those for any other generation. I've been around on these Escort groups and sites for a long long time and its only the last few years that there has been anything at all to offer us with 2nd gen cars. Most of the time, guys took it upon themselves to fabricate parts or performance gear. Look at the Lambo door mod the guy on the ERDT site was making. He started those for the first gens only.
It takes time to get manufacturers to get those parts developed for the lesser popular formats because the money just isnt there. Thats why you can find anything you want for a Honda, because 200 million kids across the country have one. You dont see anyone trying to make a bodykit and soup up parts for a 1983 Plymouth Reliant, yet Im sure someone is pissed cause they cant get that stuff for their car.
Truth be told, I cant go anywhere without seeing a 2nd gen Escort or similar bodied car on the road. They are just everywhere. It took many years for the masses to see the potential and, even at best, it still isnt as great a potential as some of the other more popular cars on the road. Heck, I see 10 year old Hondas with bodykits and wheels and tires and nice paintjobs sitting on car lots selling for the price they were when new!!! That just doesnt happen with a Ford Escort of any year, nor will it ever unless the investment far outweighs the selling price. You have to think about marketing I guess. If I were to mass produce car parts I might start with parts for my own car, sure, but I guarantee the next run will start with Hondas and Acura! Thats just the wise money making decision there. No offense, but its reality, plain and simple.

yeah that's it exactly. Companies want to turn a profit and there just isn't enough demand for them. If you think about it you wouldn't see an old man or mother driving a zx2 but i could see them in a 2nd gen just poking along. It's a popular car but not with the young age group.

well.... I'm willing to do just about anything. However... you can't expect honda prices at escort volumes. I'd love to do a turbo manifold or basically anything else you can think of that I can fab up for you. However... you can't expect me to charge the same amount (even if I figure it as some crazy $5/hour) for all the work and labor involved making one part. If I were selling 500 of the same thing it would obviously go down big time.

I'm not trying to be down on escorts at all. Obviously I'm fairly involved with them! :) I'm just saying everyone has to realize that if you want something quality and basically custom its not going to be as cheap as the honda stuff where a company can make 10,000 of them at a time.
