First off let me say hello to all of you. I didnt even know that a escort sight like this existed. First off I am not a Auto or boost noobie i have 3svo's in my driveway now and have decided to do somthing diffrent.

Second I have recently Aquired a 91 EGT and am going to do the swap as soon as i get all the info i need. I can get the motor and put it in no prop. All the places I have seen are just the motors no ECU or harness. I guess if i read right can you use a GT ecu. Do you use the same harness or do you need a GTX harness and ecu. I just need to iorn out these details and if someone can inlighten me i would appreciate it.

Third if i do need a harness and ecu can i get it from corksport or do i have to do some scavenging. Can i use my ecu or do i need the GTX unit. What are the difficulties in it. I dont really need a whole story like the one i just wrote but just yes or no where and how. Thank u very much love the group.

I am pretty sure you need at least a GTX ECU because I don't believe the GT ECU had any sort of turbo fuel management programed in...why? it never went turbo over here. You could also use an independent fuel management system like a Haltech or some such.

You can use the GT ECU and Harness, but you cant go higher then 8-10 psi since it wont adjust for boost. A guy on erdt ran the gt ecu and harness safely at 10psi and dynoed 176whp 177ftlb torque

what willum said with a few add-ons. you may ask why; well here is a few things.

1. gt has no knock sensor
2. if using the gt ecu and harness you will need to swap out the t/b if you have a 5spd. due to the 5spd being 3-pin tps and the gtx being 4-pin tps like an automatic.
3. you will need to use the regular gt 1-wire o2 sensor.
4. you will need to swap thermostat sending units or your temp gauge will read backwards (this is needed even if you use the gtx ecu)

just a couple things i know off the top of my head. as for the FMU its only needed if you want more then 8psi.

Everyone wants more then 8psi. The motor just starts to get fun there. You can occasionally purchase a wire harness and ECU from Corksport. It's not easy for them to find one that is intact. Easy way to see if they can get one for you is to email them. Otherwise start looking around for one and good luck.

why is it that no one EVER freaking mentions the required splicing of the white and black plugs under the dash!?!

"oh just swap the harness and the ECM.." yeah right!

maybe if you also swap the dashboard wiring too. 10 wires under the dash need to be spliced correctly to get this thing to even turn over.. and as it stands, even after GTscort and I found that out, the damned thing still doesnt even crank.

its because of the attitude of everyone...

there are plenty of people to write a detailed how-to individually or even as a group but all I ever hear in the regard is figure it because I had to.

my point is that in doing just a standard GTX engine swap requires the splicing of approximately 10 wires under the dash.

Never in the past 2-3 years that I have seen ppl doing this swap has anyone to my knowledge ever said anything about this splicing of wires.

the attitude of ppl? you want to know what the general attitude of ppl is? I'll tell you, its that very few ppl want to ever help anyone else, offer information, add to the development of the Escort community.

"go figure it out yourself" is the mentallity you have for teaching someone how to swim, just toss them in and hope tehy dont drown.

thats not how you get more vehicle owners to do swaps and try things. If no one ever offers any help, advice, or information on wiring or what fits and what doesnt, then there isnt any point to any of this besides individual gain. And thats selfish. Especially since we all claim to be a part of this "community of escort tuners."

I say what community? all I've seen in the past 5 years ive been involved in the online Escort scene is a majority of ppl that either try to charge for help, or dont give a shit as to even try to contribute to the overall wealth of information we could have. no no, they keep it all to themselves and say, "screw you dude, go figure it out on your own, I had to."

yeah, lets forget all about being better than the last guy who wouldnt help you out cuz he was a d!ck.

cripes.. I should've written more stuff down when i did my swap, I'd have told you what wires were which. If i remember right, I only spliced like 3 or 4 wires.. tach signal, fuel relay, igniter, I think that's all i spliced. maybe 1 more, the huge blue one. I'll take some pics soon, maybe tomorrow when I'm bored at work. :)

I think everyone swaping now rushes into it without planning, they think its just a drop and go swap which it is but not the first time you do it.

Before I did my swap I researched for atleast 2 months before I did it. I knew what wires to splice and what I would have to modified and I still had problems with little things. Someone could write a how too but everyone runs into different problems. Something everyone swapping should have before hand is the GTX manual, it makes the wiring 10 times easier and you learn a ton about the motor and how things work.
