Ok guys I was going to school yesterday... I pull out and see the this Jeep pull out from a side street flying so I floor it in first so I dont get t-boned by this mofo (which saw that I was already out in the road) but my escort goes sliding strait into a curb with the passenger side front wheel. and slides the rear end about 2 foot away from a pole. I didnt think anything of it so I pull off notice a hell of a grinding sound get to school look at my car there is like 5 big chunks missing out of my front tire the wheel is missing parts of the lip... I look under the and the axel is sitting against the strut (rubing it) its pulls like a bitch to the driver side now... seems odd since its the passenger side thats pushed back.. the cars all I got so Im gonna have to drive ( eatting the tires and axle away ) till monday when I can get it on the frame rack at school.

this fucking sucks cus todays my b-day...what a great gift

My son banged up the Escort twice on the front passenger side. If you have the stock steel rim, get one from a junkyard. I actually did this just yesterday. Make sure you get a good one, though- I jacked up the car in back, made sure the E-brake was off, and spun the wheel to make sure the rim was straight... just spin at and watch at one point, if the rim is bent you'll see the edge of the rim "jump" where it's bent. Make sure to check the inside of the rim as well. I paid $35 total for a rim, a speedometer, a rear view mirror and a dual note horn off a Grand Marquis (so not when I beep, people might actualy hear me!)

When my son banged up the car the first time, it cost about $1100. He ran into another car and bent the frame, trashed a rim, bent a strut, took out the fender, headlight and marker light. (The bumper fascia and hood were slightly damaged too but I didn't replace those). Included in that was a set of new tires, too.

The second time, he hit a guard rail. I left the cosmetic body damage alone and replaced a rim, a half shaft, and a tie rod, to the tune of $400.

(I think he bent another rim along the way, because I had to buy a new one yesterday when we rotated the tires... it wobbled quite a bit when they moved the tires around.)

Remember, not all rims are the same size. Older Escorts are smaller(13 inch), ZX2 are bigger (some are 15 in). The problem is that the brakes on the later models are too large for the smaller wheels to fit over and clear.
