damn, assault rifles in the hands of the public scare me. You cant even really hunt with those things in my opinion. In NH you can get a permit to conceal it, but you can still have a gun if your not a felon.. if you dont have the permit you just cant conceal it. I personally though dont own a firearm, although i do go shooting a lot ( and not to brag i feel im proficient with a mossberg and a glock 17 :) ) But I do keep a metal baseball bat in my car now just in case anything gets out of control.

This whole thread reminds me of this
http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/region/way ... age-attack

I think its sad how people always overreact to things. For example I work at a call center and take calls for The General, and I got a call from someone who was threatening to come to our office and "blow it up".

I agree with that. There is no reason why a civilian should have an assault rifle or automatic weapon. The bottom line is, no gun, no matter how big, is going to help you if the other guy shoots first. If they want to have one just to shoot then it should be kept locked up at a firing range.

The General? lol. Aren't they basically car insurance for low life's? I'm not surprised though. Insurance companies are not exactly high on most people's list of respected businesses. This little old lady our family knows was in an accident caused by another driver which wrecked her car and left her with a broken ankle which had her laid up for the whole winter. The other driver's insurance only offered her $3,000 for pain, suffering, and her car. She ended up calling one of those TV lawyer and got 16K out of them after fees. If they had just been fair in the first place they would have payed way less.

Pretty much. I dont mean to have an assumption but the majority of people that call are either teenagers, or people who cant afford a car but want an insurance quote anyways, and just sketchy people. There are some normal people and thats a breath of fresh air, But you would be suprised at how many people I have speaked to and they tell me they havent finished highschool... which i cant understand fully, because highschool was a piece of cake.

They don't even mention what type of gun it is..
They have been calling the Black rifle (Ar-15) an assult rifle forever.. its no such thing. The only time I even consider the weapon to be of an "assult" level weapon is if its fully automatic, which in most cases they arent.

^ what he says. Just because it is a semi auto rifle doesnt make it any more dangerous for the public to own than any other gun. There are tons of semi auto rifles and shotguns available that are much more powerful than a 5.56 ar15 "assault rifle". They do make for good coyote hunting rifles but even for that they are hardly ideal. Any of those wannabe assault rifles are basically for showoff and target shooting.

1.49 for a burrito........ better get my gun. its storys like this that make me glad to be in canada
Right, im sure nobody in canada has every had a screw loose

8O yea not cool , i had this happen to me once while i was out cruising with a friend of mine back when i had my turbo'd chevette , almost an identical scenario , only the guy that was after me obviously wanted to trade paint , he tagged my rear bumper 3 times with his truck ( 1995+ S10 blazer ) now i couldnt out run him on a flat straight on the highway but i could leave him sitting on the twisty back gravel roads almost 2 hrs of back road running an a desperate quick e brake u-turn on a dead end gravel road @ 3am ended his chase ( he slid off the road an crashed into some tree's ) , after i did my uturn i just watched him sail past skidding into the tree's an then i booked it.

this guy was absolutely relentless an was hell BENT on makin sure i wasnt goin home in one piece , i dont even remember why he decided to mark me for road kill but hitting speeds upwards of 150+ km/h ( 90ish mph ) in a chevette on dark gravel roads is not something i'd like to do ever again.

Road rage is a scary thing , never know who's out there on the roads.

the best weapon you can have in your car is a cell phone and the car its self. take some advanced driver training and or visit your local track often an practice with you car. for those that are in a lower powered vehicle then the road rage idiot following you keep him in view an if you can let them pass if they dont , stay calm an drive like you normally would. if they are appear to be serious about you or your cars destruction then you will need to be smart an creative. sometimes they get bored of you an go their own way .... some times you get a guy like i had. call your local police the first chance you get. the last thing you want to do is end up in a chance scenario like i had .

Weapons of some sort will always fall into the wrong hands no matter the location.. You "think its a good thing" there are less guns (less people arming themselves), well when someone comes at you with a weapon of any sort and you get taken out by some crazed person for no reason with no chance of defending yourself- Then you will understand why its nice to have the Choice to have a weapon to stop such acts..

Im going to stop watching this topic. There will never be an end of the arguments between 'everybody should have their own gun' versus 'I think guns are way too easy to get'. Im one of those who (amazingly) has yet to be killed by someone walking up to me and starting to shoot; & I refuse to live in fear.

+1.
I didn't make this thread to start a debate, we all just got a little bit off topic. But hey, this subject was bound to come up in this conversation. I don't own a gun and probably never will. Crime is so low around here that there isn't a need for one unless you like to hunt. For the most part, if your aren't confrontational you will avoid most situations that require a gun. Its better to focus on getting away then having a shootout.

I wasn't meaning to make an arguement of it. I just thought the reply with a shot at the US was a bit of a bother. Figured I would state my opinion on that. Thats all.

I personally do have a reason, and that is being I have had a gun pulled on me during road rage incidents multible times. So I would much rather just be protected in the future vs, the alternative of hopeing nothing happens.

Major point.... You never know who your dealing with on the road, or what their mental state/thinking is. Not everybody is out to get you no, but there are plenty cases of innocent people being attacked and that all ties together in this thread with what I was trying to make a point of. Its all good though, thats why its a choice:)

Back on the original topic:

Had something like this happen to me before. I was driving a V6 Chevy Beretta at the time - I passed some guy in a Dodge pickup that was going 35 in a 50. Of course the @sshole punched it to try to keep me from passing. I floored it and got ahead pretty easily, but then the guy got all pissed off and began to tailgate me - very closely. He followed me through several turns and it was apparent that the dude was going wherever I was going (which was home). There was no way I was revealing where I lived, so I just drove to and pulled into the parking lot of the nearest police station. Needless to say, Dodge pickup boy didn't follow.

Never had a gun pulled on me before, although when I was young and stupid I'm sure I might have deserved that a few times.

Old thread, but how about equipping your car with an inexpensive video camera (black box)??
You can pick them up off ebay for $40 or more. I have one concealed inside my car and it records my driving as soon as i turn on my ignition, and shuts off when i turn the car off. All video is saved on an SD card.
Every car should have one! It's piece of mind.

Some jackass chasing you? You have him on video.
An idiot drunk swerving all over the place in front of you? You have it on video.
How about that moron that hit you in a parking lot? Now you have video proof.

Might even make your insurance cheaper if you tell them you have this.

I think the last time I carried a gun with me in the car for protection was between 25-30 years ago. Someone had threated to kill me one night, because I was dating his ex wife. If I remember right we were working 2nd shift then and when we'd get off work it wasn't uncommon for us to be out the rest of the night before we finally went home, so I was just being sure I had some protection in case he decided to try to carry out his threat. I didn't have a concealed weapon permit, but that didn't keep me from having a fully loaded pistol in the glove compartment. Sure I could have got arrested for carrying it, but I figured it was worth the risk, Id rather be paying a fine than buying a casket!! I had no intention of using it unless he pulled a gun or knife on me first, then I'd have probably emptied it on him. I think he decided to retaliate against his ex wife instead of me. We left her car parked at a friends house one night after work and a night of drinking, so I carried her home then went on home, her car got burned that night in my friends driveway. The next day when we went to get the car it was bar-b-qued. She and I broke up soon afterward, but I continued to carry the gun for probably about a month just in case he decided to try to carry out his threat. When nothing ever happened I finally just put the gun back in the house. This was back in my younger, dumber days. Everyone knows the old saying young and dumb and full of cum, I guess that suited me to a T.

Wow! That guy in the truck was so stupid. He should have stopped after the first confrontation. Though the guy in the BMW was just as stupid. Choosing to confront the guy on a dead end dirt road? Even with a gun that's dumb. Guy with the camera could have assaulted his GF and the guy with the bat could have taken him out while he was trying to help her.
