Well guys it looks like I´m going to have to change my screen name after all. I know longer have two Escort GT´s. Now I only have one. No I didn´t get in a wreck or anything like that. I actually bought a new car today. As some of you know (if you´ve read the car shopping post) I have been trying to get a new car for some time now. Finally, after my trip to various car lots yesterday, my search is over. I found a bank that was willing to work with me and only charge 8.99% interest. I bet your wondering what I bought. Well its the one of the cars mentioned in the car shopping post. For those of you who didn´t read it, here´s the specs. Its a 2001 Kia Sephia. Its black with a grey interior. Its a 5spd (thank god), and has power windows, locks, and steering. There is an in dash cd player too, something I´ve wanted in a car for quite some time. No cruise unfortuanatly :-[ , but I´ll live. Also, it only has 17,000 miles on it and is still covered under factory warranty. I am so glad to finally have a car that I can rely on. Don´t think this means I will be leaving FEOA anytime soon, after all I still own one Escort. Besides, I would probably come here even if I didn´t own one, because you guys are so humorous.

Congradulations hope it serves you well . If its like most cars you will learn what you don`t like as well as what you do like about the car as you drive it . good luck :-D

Despite my thoughts on Kia, I´ve gotta say congratulations to anyone who takes the initiative to actually shop for a car and base their decision to buy on the things that matter-->affordability, warranty, mileage, etc. Glad to hear about anyone who is able to satisfy their needs/wants....especially in the world of cars

That´s one thing about being a true car guy, I don´t think you can be truely 100% satisfied with any car at all. But I gotta say congrats and good luck with it. Be nice to it and it´ll be nice back ;-)

That´s right you can never be 100% satisfied with any car. There is always going to be something that bugs you. For example, I´ve already noticed one thing I don´t like about this car; the shift knob is oddly shaped and feels funky, but I can always get a new one. There is bound to be more things that I don´t like, but there are things I do like as well. I definatly bought my car based on the "things that matter". If I had a choice a Kia would probably not even make my list, but right now being 19 yrs old and having no credit, I can consider myself lucky for what I ended up with. Oddly enough it sort of drives similiar to my Escort. It has a bit more body roll though, but I think its because it has softer springs, which is a good thing cause now regular driving is not so harsh. Also the clutch feels almost exactly like my scort. In fact, when I usually drive a different manual car for the first time, I usually stall because I´m not used to how it feels, but in this car I haven´t stalled yet. Finally, the power is very close to the scort allbiet a bit less, but definatly more than the Neon I test drove. Of course what car isn´t faster than a Neon? (Besides a cavilier/sunfire).

cavalier and sunfire clutches piss me off :-Y ... theres nothing there and its hard to push in and as you let it out all of a sudden it grabs like a MOFO... and no torque to keep it moving.

Not sure if Kia still carries this, but the Sephia LS uses the 1.8 BP engine. SCC magazine once campaigned a Sephia LS rally car and mentioned the goodness of the BP engine. Congrats on the new car.

My single gripe with Kia is that they bought the rights to the Lotus Elan and renamed it the "Kia Sports Car", bit of a dumb name but the car more than makes up for it. Except....THEY WON´T SELL IT IN THE STATES. I understand the logic, nobody is going to pay $30K for a Kia, but it would be nice to have something to compete with the S2000.

The engine IS a 1.8 and IS designed by Mazda. Whether it is the BP engine or not I don´t know yet. The numbers are pretty close though; 125 hp and 104 lb ft of torque. Unfortunately it only revs to 6,500 rpms. I already signed up to streetkiaz.com even before I read this post. There site is not nearly as nice as this one though. I can get pics easily with the digi cam, but I still need to make a place to put them up. I will post when I have them up though. I´ve seen a few other Sephia´s around here, but no black ones yet (by far the best color).

On another note, I took my mom out for her first standard driving lessons. She did ok, but she still has a long way to go. It must be hard trying to break the habit of driving an auto for 30 some years. In time she will get better. I consider myself a good teacher. I actually taught my sister in two days, cause I was leaving on vacation and she needed to use the car while I was gone. Luckily when I got back I still had a clutch! :-]
