I am a owner of Ford Escort 1996 1.9 which was bought in USA and consequently transported to Europe. In order to pass regural technical inspection I have to comply with some specific requiremets. One of them is to have VIN number stamped on the chassis and not only under front windscreen on a plastic mounting. Does anybody know whether american models of Ford Escort 1996 have it at all and if yes where it is located? Thank you.

I don't know which country you are in, but here are some of my thoughts.

Do you know any other Escort owners that you can discuss this with to see how it impacted them? do THEY confirm the present of chassis stamps?

My experience that sometimes laws are created to take advantage of certain situations that already exist.... like, chassis is STAMPED, so let's make a low that says it MUST be stamped.

Sometimes it's the opposite. The law is passed that the chassis MUST be stamped, so the manufacturer complies.

I would also check that law closely to see if it states which model YEARS it pertains to, perhaps that law is for newer model years, and won't affect yours?

But let's see what some other Escort owners here say; maybe 1996 DOES? maybe not. I would look closely at the edges of all your doors, the trunk or hatch, the hood, and maybe some places in the engine compartment. Perhaps we'll find the chassis stamping started here after 1996?

Good Luck,

There's got to be a database that says where for a particular car. John Law is going to want to know where to look. He is not going to want to hunt and peck or take your word that the one you stamped is the one he is looking for.
