The other day I saw a 98 escort with what looked like a V6 under the hood. The engine bay was gutted except for this and the other few essentials(e.g. radiator, battery,intake,etc.). I wanted to know if anyone else hgas ever heard of this being tried. And if so what modifications what need to be done to the car besides gutting the engine bay to make this engine wotk in the escort.

It was probably either a 2.5L KL-3 or KLZE V6 motor...unless for some ungodly reason someone stuffed the 1.8L V6 out of the mx6 in there.

On a slightly related note, are there any V6 engines that will bolt up to the stock mounts in a 2nd gen GT?

I'm just wondering how much butt a 220hp/200lb-ft N/A taurus SHO V6 engine would kick in an EGT.

The only problem is the way that the axles hook up to the wheels. Dayum.

No v6 will bolt to stock mounts, but when you use mx3-v6 mounts you can bolt kl-series stuff right in :). A near stock KLZE in and escort will run low 14's-high 13's, I'm sure some people here remember Darren and his tracer..

i remember the days fo the tracer
on teh sho v6, you do have to modify the axels and make mounts to fit, 'i talked to ford motorsports a few years ago, they were bored once and did it to a 92 pony, and said it screamed.
thats also the time i learned aobut the ztech swap, when they said it would work, back in 1998

The mx6 had the KL-3 like the probe. It was the mx3 that came with the tiny 1.8, and the ungodly reason someone might swap one in is because the rest of the mx3 drivetrain is needed, and their KL-ZE might still be on lay-away

I thought you needed an mx3 subframe :?: So the KL will drop onto a BP subframe? cool!

I want pics! I don't believe it! They put one in a topaz, and one in a probe (both of which have larger engines bays than escorts) and they had to cut holes and move some suspension stuff around to fit it in there..

the kzle will fit, go to erdt and ask klze escort, he has been thinking of selling it. plus there was a guy with a tracer witht he same motor, he had to pull the master cylender out so the motor could drop dowqn and it fit. it ran 13 high 14 low, and had plenty of traction problems. he had the video for it!
