after having to replace a valve seat on my 97 escort wagon lx with junkyard 98 2.0 sohc engine, i noticed an electical connection just below the head and slightly above the starter motor which has two prongs and is a female end. I've searched the entire engine bay, but can't find the other end to the plug, can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know what that plug is? I've tried to search the forum, but all the threads i've seen have been irrelevant. I'd really appreciate this because i only have about 10 hours to get my car fixed, thanks

yea - no audio - anyway - probably just lifter tick - pull the valve cover and warm motor, take the rockers to 20-22 ft/lbs - should be G2G then

thats what i was thinking because i may have over torqued one of the bolts that hold down the valve cover. So, your suggesting to take off the valve cover, then warm the moter, then torque it?? or just warm the engine, then remove cover and re-torque?

well, i tried re-torquing the rockers, but with no difference in the sound. I had a friend of mine take a look at it...his first thought was why i bought an escort lol. He suggested that it may be that when the valve seat was re-installed the valve spring was not tensioned enough, he suggested that i may have to shim the valve spring, anyone have any input as to how to go about doing this?

no, but the video makes it sound much much worse than it actually is (prolly cause its in a parking garage) The piston and head werent damaged that bad, so i didnt replace either, i just fixed the valve seat, and had the machinest grind down the high spots on the head due to the debris hitting the head

I am only asking because it happened to me a few years ago. Did you thoroughly clean the intake before putting it back on? I didn't and it still had chunks of the valve seat floating around in it. So I ended up pulling the head twice, when the valve seat fails the compression pushes the pieces up into the intake. It sure sounds like you still have a pretty bad problem. I wouldn't run it any more than necessary.

i cleaned the head and the inside of the cylinder thoroughly, but you never know. i may just take off the head again to see whats up, but not until i know that it is absolutely necessary. I was thinking of getting a compression gauge tomorrow to check for compression in all cylinders (trying to start at least invasive) does anyone know what the compression of each gauge should be?
