Something I heard on radio this a.m. that might amuse you - "The (UK)driving test is to be made much harder from April - candidates are going to have to know about what goes on under the bonnet (hood) - they have to know how TO CHECK OIL, WATER & BRAKE FLUID LEVELS!!!!!" :-?
Poor devils, how can they possible learn all that as well as mastering the controls??! :-(

I can see a lot of people failing a test with that level of complexity. At least they didn´t make it imposible to pass, you don´t have to check the power steering fluid, or even identify the battery :-o

:-D :-o :)

I totally agree that people should be able to do basic maintenance on their cars before they get their liscense. I think the test should have a written and applied part to it. First they should have to pass a set of questions about maintenance intervals, and proper fluid levels. Then they should have to go out to their car with an examiner and show them how to check tire pressure, and check fluid levels. And if when they show the examiner how to do all this and their oil or brake fluid is low, they should be docked point, or even failed. People complain that if they did have maintenance as part of the driving test that no one would pass. In my eyes that is a good thing. That would mean less traffic due to less driver. Also there would be less traffic due to broken down cars since the people who do pass will know how to take care of their cars.
