I am planning on Turboing my 1990 escort GT that I paid 400 dollars for and it is clean. I am going to start getting pictures going to show where I found the car and start going into detail about the Junkyard turbo project. Monday is when it officially started. My friend is also going to turbo his escort (91 lx). We hit the junkyard at around 11 in the afternoon. The first junkyard we hit we hit a gold mine. There was one Turbo EXP so we yanked all we could off of it the exhaust mani, ECU, injectors, thermostat housing left the turbo cuz it was shot. All this cost 75 dollars. Also in this junk yard lies two 2nd gen GTs the guy only wants like 500 bucks each for them. One is black and has no body damage whatsoever and the other one is white and has been rear ended. But that is not on my mind right now. Also in the junk yard lies a good 20-30 scorts from 1st gen to 3rd gen. Mostly LX´s. Some of them you cant tell what they are. Well we went to a couple more junk yards and didnt find anything. The last junk yard we went to had one Merkur XR4TI in it that still had a complete engine. So we yanked the turbo, the injectors, the ECU, the VAM, and the throttle body and I yanked the dual stage rear wing off of it for my car. For an intercooler we yanked an aftercooler off a supercharged toyota mr-2. Everything we got was roughly 150 dollars at that junk yard. We still have many parts to find but I will keep all of you posted until we get these bad boys on a dyno and see what kind of numbers we can turn.

Jesus! I want a junkyard like that near my house. It´d be like Christmas all over again. Everytime I go to my 2 local junkyards they never have Escorts. I mean come on. It´s only the most common car on the road right?

Yeah, and the reason there not in junkyards is because they are still ON the roads.
Theres a huge junkyard in Hazelton, PA. They usually have a nice selection of scorts. Just lettin the PA scort owners know in case they didn´t already. Oh yeah, their website is www.wegotused.com

I will let everybody know what kind of good parts i come across in the yard. I know where I can get lots of 1.6 liter turbo manifolds at for free. They will bolt right up to the 1.9 no mods. So if anybody needs some I am prolly gonna go snag them all and start selling them for like 25 bucks a pop. But anybody interested let me know what you need.

I´ve been checking the yards here for a wrecked GT so I can pick up the intake manifold - want to practice my porting&polishing. And be able to swap back to stock if I overdo it. But no luck finding one.

What is different about an EXP? There is one in the yard i go to. Also is there anything that i could use to enhance performance on my 2nd gen gt? Thanks

An EXP is essentially a 2 seater escort. In 84 and 85 both the High end EXP and Escort GT came equipped with a 1.6 liter turbo motor. The last year of the EXP died in 88 I believe.

I know where there are lots of manifolds. I just went junkyardin for my transmission(which are so hard to find for gt´s) and there are all kinds of gts, but everyone take´s the transmissions off of them...still pleanty of other engine associated parst out there for us.

This is getting better every day. My mom has so kindly sent me 400 dollars so I can pay off the guy i bought my Trans am from. Now i can sell it. Yippee. I will be going prolly some time this week to go get my escort i will be taking pictures and i will post them. I found this car in the ghetto. Im sure you all know about those sh1tty little places where you can find nothing but rust buckets and old as hell Chevy caprices and stuff. Well i will take pictures of the car where it sits and after i detail it.
