hello,
I am trying to fix a friends radio setup, 99' ford escort zx2, they want the stock radio back in. Yes, I understand an aftermarket would be great, but they really want the stock back in.

so heres the issue: the radio is stock "premium sound", so I thought "hook it up to the connectors, all is good". nope.

Radio powers up, but no sound output. so I looked around, and found the amp under the seat. removed it, popped the cover, no discoloration/burning, no burnt smell, looks good still. plugged it back in, still no sound. went back to the crappy aftermarket HU, it puts out sound on the speakers using the non-premium sound connector, even with the amp removed. is there something missing here? all I have in the radio opening is the gray conector, black connector, premium sound connector, and antenna connector.

if it is the amp, anyone have a working one for a decent price they are looking to get rid of?

well,
from what I've been looking at with this amp, it seems that the capacitors, resistors, and diodes all look good, look pristine with no discoloration, bubbling, or bulging, so they have to be ok. no traces are corroded or cut.

I remember she said the back speakers worked for a while with the aftermarket head unit, then died. the last person wired in an amplified head unit through the regular audio plug, not the premium sound plug, maybe this sent power through the wrong wires down to the chips where it wasnt wanted.

I've done some reading of people replacing amplifier chips in their ford factory amps, so I'm guessing this may be my next move...
