about to do the famous 5 speed swap this weekend wanted to know what you guys suggest for oil. I was told to use some heavy gear oil for diesel trucks, its a tad on the pricey side and this project is sort of a must right now leaving my pockets fairly empty.... so I'm looking for something fair priced that is decent quality

    thanks

I use BG products fluid. It a "professional" grade fluid sold to repair shops. IIRC, BGproducts.com is the site. The area rep rolls in every few weeks. Their cleaners and conditioners are great too, use them in flushes all the time. IDK prices, bossman lets me snag a gallon's worth when I need it...

I've got gear oil in my '88 Pony which works fine, but the shifting is a little bit stiff during the winter. I've heard of people using synthetic motor oil in manual transmissions, but I've never tried it.

i usually use 75w90 gear oil and thought the trans was supposed to be "clunky". just put in ATF synthetic with the last trans and it is much smoother.

    used Valvoline synthetic atf

ATF works great. Just make sure to get the right kind (check the manual).

ATF for cold climates GL-4 gear oil for warmer weather.

Ford calls for ATF, Mazda calls for gear oil in the same transmission. You decide whats best for you
