How much pressure does the transmission cooling lines see? Mine rusted thru and leaking fluid everywhere. Could I slide a rubber hose over the rusted line and clamp it? Or would there be too much pressure? Local garage says the lines are a dealer only item and he can't get them. I hate to pay dealer prices to have new lines installed.
The leak is bad enough that it is a steady flow of fluid, not just drips.

You use fuel lines as a replacement. You cut out the bad parts and clam in fuel line. I did it on my 1985GT. There is someone else here who did it on a newer Escort and I think they even posted the size fuel line that they used.

on the 3 gen the lines are 3/8 so you can use break line
for a bend you can use a tubing bender

You could just replace the whole trans cooler with an aftermarket one by pulling the hoses at the trans housing and completely bypassing the factory one. They cost about $30 at a parts store and come with hose and clamps.
