Dexron II is the recommended fluid. I have used Redline MTL and loved the performance, but found that the transmission gaskets wept. We have had this discussion before and I´m the guy who doesn´t like synthetics for that same reason. I do not feel that synthetics are compatible with all automotive seals. I switched back to Dexron, and guess what? No more weeping. I stand by my story.

As for seals, my OEM seals were still sealing just fine when I replaced them at 244,000 miles, so I say go OEM. They aren´t very expensive, anyway.

well, found it...Everyone, even ford fumbled around about it, and the books say to use merkron dextron 3...ford seems to agree. We´ll i used that and i got the seals... 8 hours later, here i got a car again...seems to run fine. Will check in after tonights 2 hour trip back home...*crosses fingers*

Yeah definetly... how-tos for the escort are a fantastic way of encouraging noobs like myself to go ahead and learn more about their cars and push the limit.

And I´m running the stock dextron fluid. It´s okay, but I think synthetic would be better... but I also don´t want my seals weeping either.

ok phew, i was a fraid that everyone had been tellin me wrong. Book says mercon or dextron II, but ford and everyone said mercon or dextron III..hope it works..400 miles and its still doin good.

Yeh, i´ll get on writing one while its still fresh in my head. I had to do alot. Since i blew a hole in the transmission, it also blew a hole in the transmission where the clutch sits. I had metal shavings and all kinds of fluid all over my clutch...Had to replace that too and re surface the flywheel. The gt´s have odd flywheels, good luck to everyone if it needs resurfaced..its a b**ch. But yeh, i´ll get to work on the tutorial and someone will have to tell me who to go to when i´m ready to submit it to the site.

welp, my tranny tutorial is done, question is, who wants it? I dont have pics, but if you read it, its very easy to identify the parts i discuss and what they look like. If you have any questions, just message me and i´ll be glad to answer them. I wish i had had someone to turn to for my advice becuase i came into a few complications. I got them worked out, so all is good.
