Hey, i own a 1995 Ford Escort GT, with a automatic transmission,

http://www.cardomain.com/id/nukewater

and i believe it lost alot of its potential off the line, cuz when i start off, its a peice of shit till it hits about 3000 rpm, then takes off, but my real question is, how hard would it be to switch to a manual transmission. Like how much would it cost, or could i find peices off a totalled escort or mercury tracer and then pay to have it installed, and if sooo how much do u think i will pay. Im canadian btw if u wanna no.

Any help is appretiated

well in my opinion, I would trade in the auto on a stick. ask around at the car lots and see what they have. Most likely this woul dbe cheaper than going from auto to stick. but if you wanted to do it, you would need obviously a 5 speed tranny, flywheel and clutch assemble. the clutch pedal and the whole clutch hydraulic system. as far as the mounts go I have no clue if they are the same. ditto on the half shafts. dont forget to get all the shift linkage and if you are going for the factory look, ge the center console as well. like I said. easier and cheaper to trade for another.

Well, i called the salvage yards around, and they want $700 tranny alone, no flywheel, cylinders, wires, anything, just tranny, on exhange, so unless a big block of gold falls out of the sky onto my lap, i dunno if i can do this any time soon, if any one knows how or where i can find one cheaper it would be appretiated.. also $700 for installation, which i also belive is STUPID!

I priced doing that to my 91 EGT cause i think it is a dog off the line also, and I was told it would be around $4000. You have to change the computer on your car and I think the harness is different also. Plus everything you have to add for the stick shift. I think it would be cheaper to trade it on a stick somewhere. Alot less of a hassle also. i was told it was a bit of a lengthy process also.
