Engine light on.

Car making a funny clunking noise intermittently, but not for the garage.

brakes feel funny

but nothing's findable and they say the brakes are fine, and that it could be any one of a bunch of sensors.

argh! They say Escorts are like this (I have a 2001 Ford Escort)

its a really annoying thing to be driving around with the engine light on.

suggestions? its supposed to be a really reputable garage.

The garage should have hooked a scanner up to the OBDII port which would have read out the code for them, giving them an idea of where to start looking. There are also testing proceedures for most electronic sensors to find out if any of them are bad or not. I'd suggest taking the car to another garage or take the car to Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and they will probably read the codes for free. I know they do here in hopes of selling you the parts that you need to repair the car. If you could get the code number it would help us determine your problem.

My Escort makes a strange noise when applying the brakes. Took it in to the garage and had new pads, calibers, rotors, & wheel bearings put on. Still made the noise, took it back and had every thing checked out, nothing found out of the ordinary. They did replace the wheel bearings for free again. Still makes the noise, everything works fine just has the noise, and no its not the cv joints, know all about that.

I've never heard anything just like it in almost 50 years of driving, mechanics haven't either. I just live with it.
