I left my brothers house tonight and decided I didn´t want to go home, yet. As I was driving down I-469 I decided not to get off at my normal exit and continue down to US 27, I decided to go explore through Decatur, IN. When I got there I noticed a cop had someone pulled over on some side street and really didn´t want to stay in that town. So I continued south on 27 and had passed through two more small towns, which I don´t know the names of, that´s about the time I decided I´d had enough of US27 and turned west on Indiana Rt. 18. I didn´t know it at that moment but it was the route that takes you straight into downtown Marion, In. About ten miles down the road, however, I did realize where it went and I had my bearings back and I knew exactly where I was going.
I had previously thought of heading to Indianapolis.. but by this time I had already driven 75 miles. About the time I made it to I-69 just before Marion, I decided to turn back north and head home. I set my cruise at 73 mph and put on some Korn (Follow the Leader). When I got up by Manchester, I noticed an early 90s Cavalier come on to the onramp, didn´t think anything of it...until I got up next to him. Just as I was getting around him, I hear him drop a gear and punch it. I continued on my way to let him think nothing of me, but, when I heard his engine drop off, I tapped the brakes, dropped to 4th and punched it. By the time I had steadied out at 110 mph he was a car length or so behind me. I couldn´t really tell, I was busy keeping my car straight. Now, I know this was stupid but I had been obeying traffic laws all night within any of those city limits I reached, dropped to 35 and in some cases 25 mph. So anyway, here I am doing 110 mph with a Cavalier behind me trying to keep up. I just smiled and then I noticed we were running up on this van so I kept it up. To me, it´s a kill for me if he has to slow down and swerve into my lane. Which is exactly what he did, I didn´t let him in front of me. Just after he got around the van he headed for an offramp, so I braked and swerved in behind him to see where he was going. He turned into some parking lot. I kept going, turned around about a 1/4 mi down the road and came back just as he was coming back to his car from some hotel, I U-turned and hot-tailled it out of the parking lot, and he followed me, until I got back up on the highway... so I said oh well, I got one more kill, time to go back to relaxing. I was happy with my new kill, so I lit up a victory cigar. It was so good. I set the cruise back to 73 and continued on my way. I get back up into Ft Wayne and got off at the US 30 West exit to go down Coliseum Blvd. I got behind this jeep with a Calvin sticker in which he´s holding his balls and flipping you off. I thought that was amusing. A little bit later, as I´m still driving down Coliseum I noticed this old Dodge or Ford pickup truck with dual exhaust REALLY REALLY pushing his engine, I´m sittin there in 4th gear at 3000 rpms, and I´m gaining on him. Pathetic huh? At this time I just wanted to come back and get online. I continued my way through the city and came back to fill up my car. I used 10.517 gallons of gas in 205.2 miles...if you calculate that you get 19.511267 miles per gallon. That´s about 4 more MPG than I´ve usually been getting.
Part of the reason I did this was I kept hearing from a coworker that I should get out and explore, so I did. Another part was that I wanted to be by myself, with no one bitching at me.
My trip odometer read 51 miles when I started and read 205.2 when I ended and now I´m at 89,420 miles...all this in about 2 and a half hours. That´s all I can drive in one night. Thanks for letting me tell you about it ;-)
