For those of you wanting to get new wheels and tires, here is a handly little tool. Input your original tire and wheel size and then size your new tire and wheel to match the diameter of your old one. Now you don't need to worry about them throwing your speedo off.

*Should note that this will not tell you how wide you can go. You'll need to check with your installer. To my knowledge no one has put anything wider then a 205 on an Escort without changing the factory backspacing.

175/65-14. Thats what I have on my car. Since I bought the car, I've had them replaced three times. two sets of all season, one set winters. All the same size.

my Lx with stock steelies had 175/70R13 on it.

i just got done fitting 225/45/17's

does anyone know the factory backspacing? i want to get rims and i want wider. who can help me out

does anyone know if i can put 215/35/18's on my 3rd gen. i have seen one done but i was wondering what i would need to do to make them work. my buddy was giving me the set off of his civicand im hoping theyll fit.

My stock tires on my LX were 175/65-14
and I put 205/40ZR17 and the handling is awesome...

i was told by my local tire shop that they could put 215/45/17 on my 95 wag

Yeah they might be able to but your speedo will be off. The correct size would be 205/40/17

yes it would throw off the speedo but only by 1.4% so it wouldn't be much

You'll need to check the clearance with a tire that size.

Yes Etienne, most `91-`93's with steallies come from the factory w/175/70R13's, or both my `91 Pony and my `92 wagon did. I think in `94 they bumped the steallies up to 175/65R14's to allow more clearance for the brakes. I know I tried fitting a 13" steallie on my mom's `94 w/14" steallies on it (blow out, only spare tire I had) and the thing wouldn't clear the Caliper. Same with my `95 LX Sport. Basically, I have 2 spare rims that only fit in the rear. :evil:
