I have done 2 gen timing belts, takes me no time, gt and lx,

but now i am trying to change on in a 1990 escort gt, and its not as easy, cant get to the crank pully as easy to impact the nut off. thats where i am stuck, seams the upper motor mount is int he way and wont let the motor lower anymore,

has anyone changed theres and what did you do, yes i have read the repair manuals, on second gens i can do these blind, but the 1st gen it a little diffrent as in compartment issues.
any info would be greast thank you

I had the same issue with my 89. What I had to do was take the mount bracket off the engine (you have to take the P/S pump off to get at it) and then you can lower the engine enough to get at the bolt. Since I do the belt every 60,000 km I removed enough of the bracket so I don't have to remove it for future belt replacements. I think I took about a 1/4 inch off.
