Well, this is kind of an old report of this, but I smoked my friend's 2000 Focus ZX3 w/the 2.0L SPI, and I smoked him quite easily. Actually, it was a really easy kill, each of the three times I did it. You see, he has an automatic, and me with my 5-speed, and quick shifting and a lead foot, well, you know the rest....

yeah i noticed..... he's got 3 more hp than me, and 21 more ft-lbs of torque, but without the right tranny, and the right gearing, it ain't gonna move very fast

according to edmunds...

2nd gen escort - 2355lbs
3rd gen escort (sedan/zx2) - 2468/2464lbs

focus (4-dr.) - 2604lbs
focus (zx3) - 2598lbs

yep, you're right.
ok then... let's see..... that is a difference of 243 lbs, approximately. figuring in whatever is in our trunks and such, that number is a bit different. so, i tell him to empty out his car, i throw in a couple friends, and see what happens

either that, or i turn on my A/C

but what do they dyno? just because they're rated at '3 more hp and 21 more ft-lbs of torque' doesn't mean thats what they put out.

the focus is heavy too

well that's what i'm saying.... without a good tranny and the right gearing, it don't mean nothin. if he gutted his car, it'd weigh alot less than mine.... but it wouldn't be something to drive in the winter here
