First post here...but not new to the escort.I had a 93 escort lx that was great,but i messed it up.SO i'm thinkin of getting a an 02 zx and was wondering if they newer escorts had certain problem areas to look for.

I found a 2002 zx with 5 speed that fully loaded for 2500 and it looks to be in pretty good condition.I just haven't had a chance to go check it out yet.

Not really. My dad has a 98 ZX2 and it has been a vary reliable car. Other than normal wear items it just needed tie rod ends and an alternator, he has had the car for over 7 years as well. Just watch out for the usual things like rust, signs of previous accidents, ect. Ask if the timing belt was changed depending on the mileage of the car. Compared to your 93 will love the engine, it really hauls. The only thing that isn't as good is the handling because Ford went with a smaller rear sway bar but you can easily swap in the bar from an older Escort which will fix that. Check it out and take a test drive.

I got a 01 and love it. Nothing outside of the usual things are needed as far as maintenance is concerned.
