:?: I need some ideas on what might be wrong with my old girl-shes a 1994 1.9 Ford Escort.......the past month it has been getting really sluggish, when I get up to 60mph she backs right down, sometimes it doesnt even go 30mph. Ive changed the fuel filter last week, and im thinking about the computer, any ideas??????? Roman

How many miles are on it? If there over 60,000 (I think) your suppose to get your O2 sensor changed and maybe a good tuneup?

Throw some fuel injection cleaner in it and do a tune up.New plugs,wires,pvc valve and air filter.
Okay as far as the tune up Ive basically keep the tune up regular, the fuel injector cleaner im going to try that.....the oxygen sensor ive always been told they arent really a necessity, (Dont ask)...the throttle body im checking on..thanks for the input....

I have 167,000 miles and I havent ever changed my o2 sensors.

well ill tell ya.. if i could drive it it would run fine when im done.. no one ever believes me when i say this:
take your car out.. wind the piss out of the gears untill your bascally toped out. do this a few times for a week or 2.
im being totaly serious on this one. you gotta spin it up and hold it to breake up the carbon build up. you gotta heat it up farther than its used to.
if i was a mechanic and you brought your car to me, i would do exactly that and charge you a few hundred dollars... oh wait,, thats what they really do.

There is a product called rislone, it goes in the oil, various combustion chamber cleaners, and a product called SeaFoam which will also help. It goes into a vacuum line on the intake or TB and helps to remove all the carbon.
Also a steady drive down the freeway in 4th gear with the rev's up will help to loosen up the carbon.
You could always beat the piss outta the car, but why break something else. I dont think you should ever have to wind your car up to red-line to fix something. LOL

It's a lot of fun to beat the piss outta your car though sometimes!!! Today I put about 400km on my car, and well, most of it was highway havin some fun!!! It always seems a lot more peppy for the next few weeks!
we had a member, I cant remember if it was here or on ERDT, that put sea foam in his engine and it funked it up pretty bad for a few weeks till he could burn off the tank. If I was going to put any additives in my tank, It would be when the tank was near empty, so if anything went wrong, it wouldnt take me a long to burn it off. If it helps, Fill her up, and go get another bottle of additive. Better safe than sorry. Winding the crap out of the engine every now and then helps too. Alot of the Dodge Intrepids with the 2.7 V6 have died prematurely from oil starvation because sludge builds up in the oil pan and then breaks off and gets sucked into the extrely low oil pickup. It rides less than 3/8 of an inch off the bottom of the pan :roll: . I doubt sludge would build up to such massive levels if granny would put a boot in 'er ass every now and then :wink:

i remember one day i took a trip out to autozone in the scort, and it had been feelin sluggish for a couple days, but i was windin out to 6500RPM alot on the way there.. when i left autozone, i pulled back out onto the street, the car bucks, gives off some black smoke, and i feel more power! lol i guess it is a good way to get rid of build up... and i have 183k, and i also like to just free rev and let it bounce off the revlimiter (mine is about 7k RPM) just for good measure... sounds good too
